Micah Jesse

Micah Jesse, enough is enough!  Young man, we suggest you dry yourself off so that you don’t drench that poor girl next to you.  Someone has to go put out the flames on this guy.  So I guess Stereo by the Shore is really that much fun?!

runway

Last night we went to the newly opened lounge Runway on fifth and 28th for the first time.  The club was opened in April by Greg Barrias and Rich Messina.  But nothing, including an opening night hosted by Ashley Simpson, a 17 foot long backlit catwalk, or walls clad in models comp cards (headshots) could turn this into the new “hot spot”.  We went in with no expectations and left with exactly that…nothing special going on here, but could make for some potentially fun drunk practice runway walks…

Isn’t this one enormous liability waiting to happen?

Kenny Kenny Tunnel Limelight Spa

If you have been to any club worth its salt in New York City over the past three decades, then you have undoubtedly run into transter Kenny Kenny (who these days can frequently be seen clad in high heeled zipper boots and a fur lined bomber hat, even in August). Kenny Kenny, the ubiquitous and fabulous queen of New York nightlife has run the door at The World, Red One, Palladium, USA, Limelight, Sound Factory, Spa, Plaid, and more recently HOME to name a few. He is now more focused on running parties such as Ultra, Buckingham, Distortion Disco, and Happy Valley Tuesdays.

Kenny Kenny got his her start as a Club Kid running with the infamous Michael Alig and his crew in the late 80s/early 90s. But the days of Club Kids were numbered, and Kenny Kenny eventually became a door fixture for the next two decades. His first door was Susanne Bartsch’s SAVAGE which he ran with Gene Crell and partied with some of the greatest including Andy Warhol, Jean Michel Basquiat, Faye Dunaway, Debbie Harry, Bette Midler, etc. Certainly Peter Geishen’s limelight was one of Kenny Kenny’s biggest gigs in the late 90s, when Peter and Steve Lewis basically ran the entire New York scene.

But our fondest recollection of Kenny Kenny was when he she was at Spa. For those of you who never ventured inside, it was a truly tremendous club with a super eclectic crowd and a great layout (which you can see part of in the movie Made, starring Vince Vaughn, P. Diddy and John Favreau). But we digress…the point of our story was that as you neared the front of the line, Kenny Kenny would start taking notice of you, and checking you out. And at the moment he started to let your party in, he would line up everyone in your group and scan them from head to toe, scrutinizing each and every little fashion detail. He himself had been involved in fashion his entire life, studying it along with textile design at the Dublin National College of Art and Design and starting his own line under Rachael Auburn in London. If Kenny Kenny spotted a fashion faux paus, it was generally something you could not recover from, and that was the end of your night…it was true hilarity!

We just can’t get enough of Kenny Kenny, and will stop by HOME on occasion just to hear those whispery words out of his puckered pressed lips “You look FAB-U-LOUS dahling!” When you hear that from Kenny Kenny, you KNOW you’ve still got it, the bitch wouldn’t lie.

Seventh Seal

Today legendary director Ingmar Bergman passed away at the age of 89.  A true genius and master of cinema, Bergman had an enormous impact on film in the last 4 decades.  The Seventh Seal is perhaps our favorite of his works.  A film that demands multiple viewings, it explores the relationship between man and God as a Knight, recently returned from the crusades, plays a game of chess with Death.

If you still think Stephen Spielberg is the most influential director in modern film, think again.  And next time you think of going to the movies, bypass all the weak attempts at this art form, and instead rent the Seventh Seal.  You will not be dissapointed.

Has anyone seen the new VH1 presentation of the Fabulous Life Presents: the Hamptons?

We are pretty sure it’s quite the cheese-fest (just the voice of the narrator on that show is enough cheese for one month).  Anyway, we weren’t out east this weekend, ours was spent in much greater cheesiness (yes it is possible), but here’s what we missed:

And Dave Matthews at the Ross school as part of the Hamptons Social Concert series:

While we are obviously upset we missed out on showing off our new polo watching gear, we had quite the adventurous weekend (details to follow).  Thanks to Rob Rich for providing exclusive coverage out east this summer.

I just saw the new video of the Cold War Kid’s song Hospital Beds, and thinks its one of the best I’ve seen all year. I have yet to wrap my mind around all the things going on in it, but its a beautiful video as well as a great song.

pimms

Today Pimm’s threw their Urban Regatta, in Finsbury Square London, a landed response to the Henley Royal Regatta where Pimm’s No. 1 is a staple. This quirly “sailing” event involves a variety of 2 and 4 person races in bottomless boats with obstacles to test competitors abilities. But of course the best part of it is that there is free Pimm’s for all.

Speaking of which, its friday and we sure could use a nice big pitcher of Pimm’s…yum!

kristian laliberte

We’ve been spending a lot of time posting on social boy Micah Jesse. We feel like we have been leaving Kristian Laliberte out. So, because we have nothing better on this Thursday to post about, we dug up this picture of Kristian doing what he does best: Acting out his role of #1 socialtard.

harry potter

When we saw this guy reading a Harry Potter book on the subway this morning, we were thinking to ourselves that we were a little disappointed in his effort.  I mean if you’re going to be a Potter fan, shouldn’t you be A POTTER FAN!  He should have been done with this book cover to cover Sunday night.  We never got into the Harry Potter hoopla, not back in ‘97, and not now, but we’re still a little curious to what happened, though from what little knowledge we know of the series it’s either Harry won or died.  So which one was it?  Can someone just tell us so we will know as this is obviously one of those pop-cultural knowledge things that you may need to know one day in the future.  We are lazy, and we don’t like reading about wizards…

p.s. When this guy got off train we noticed it wasn’t even the latest “Deathly Hallows” he was reading, it was the “Goblet of Fire” which means he has THREE more to go!  So now we’re thinking this guy probably wanted to be part of the hoopla and has gone through like 4 potter books in 3 days, we feel like we may have misjudged his efforts….

ny post cover

We usually don’t pay much attention to the NY Post, or any newsPAPERs in general…we like the online versions, they don’t give us inky fingers.  So we don’t really get that much off the Post except maybe the occasional Page Six shout out.  Well today was different.  Today, some copywriter at the Post was really really creative and, even though you may have already seen this paper, as it is almost 11:00 pm and hence the day is almost over, we just wanted to get our official “Lohan’s retarded” post out of the way.  There.  We are over it.  We will not do another post on her and her “problem” again.

V&V

V&V Energy Drink started because brothers Gordon and Erik Von Broock were sick and tired of not having choices of things to mix with their alcohol, of tasty alternatives to coffee, and of Red Bull.  This is something we have also lamented over for quite some time.  So, after dabbling in fame through Tavern, that delicious night club in the Hamptons that we will always reminisce back fondly on, these guys are out promoting their new line of energy drinks (they recently just introduced a sugar-free/zero calorie version which is actually tasty) and the top restuarant and lounge players are taking notice.  Right now you can find V&V online or at fine establishments in New York and surrounding areas (Hamptons).  Places like Soho House, Nobu, le Bilboquet, and Nello’s.

von broock brothers

We are not fans of promoting people we don’t like, even if we like their products.  That is why we love V&V.  Not only do we really like this product, we really like these guys.  They are completely self made and have no pretensions about them in real life.  They also got us to go to Tavern on the Green for the first time last night (we usually try to avoid places our parent’s ask to be taken to, for purposes of knowing if they are asking to go, it truly is a tourist trap), at a promotional party they threw which was divine.
