just salads

We know a good thing when we taste it.  That’s why, when we had our first salad from Just Salads on Park Avenue we weren’t fooled by the free cool bright-colored reuseable containers, the hip music, or the wickedly good-looking patrons (which apparently NY Mag has caught on too as well)….we were just smitten with the salads.  They are unmistakeably good.  The dressings and breads are amazing and the cheddar cheese! My god it’s like a little bite of heaven for less than $10.  So apparently it’s also the new cool place (along with the Bowery Whole Foods store) to meet hot singles in their 20s. Our thoughts?  We think that this is just about the healthiest way to meet a date ever.  No waking up the next morning with a massive headache wondering who is beside you, no pretentious dinner parties, no booze, no drugs,  just salad.

From the NY Mag article: “There are always attractive girls and guys my age there,” says Michele Waldman, a 25-year-old regular. “And Nick and Rob are so cute and flirt with all the girls in line—it’s great,” she says. And, of course, there are also those healthy salads. “Cute guys plus carb-free dressing?

Nick and Rob are of course the young 20-year old owners and founders.  They quit their hedge fund jobs to sell salad.

We also think the people they found to interview were cute:

Why are you here?
There are a lot of attractive women in here. And the dressings are great. I come here for the dressings and the girls, basically.

Dressing and Girls…sounds about right

prince concert

This Saturday we attended the Prince Concert at the Ross school in East Hampton. It’s part of the “Hampton Social Concert Series”

So is seeing Prince REALLY worth the cost of the tickets (10k)!?

well, apparently some people (Kelly and Mark Consuelos Ripa, David Blaine, Lauren Dyan, Christy Brinkley’s clan, Jay Z, Kid Rock, Leonardo Dicaprio, Angelica Houston, Bon Jovi to name a few) think so….

By the way how cool does Jack Brinkley look? The kid is in his prime awkward stage and yet he pulls off looking remarkably charming even behind a brace-face:

executive_hair.jpg

We love the 80s, but can’t say we are big fans of 80s executive hair, the long locks that executives use to sport on Wallstreet and in boardrooms across America.  Though we did enjoy it on Patrick Bateman in American Psycho.  Generally speaking you need straight dark hair to pull this look off, otherwise its just too impossible to tame the mane.

Today the only relic of this fashion trend can be found on Maitre’Des in French restaurants in New York City, as they toss around bottles of vino tinto.

Fake Boobs

Why is this buxom blonde, spotted at Pink Elephant Southampton, smiling from tit to tit?  I just can’t seem to figure it out, why she is so smitten with her chest.  Is she thinking, ”oh look at my boobs, I hope you think they are real unlike my face”?  Or is she thinking, “oh look at my boobs, you bet your ass they’re fake and my husband’s fat wallet is footing the bill”?

So perhaps this is just another form of female peacockery, whereby women proudly displays the fact that in addition to Coach purses, diamond rings, and a 330i, she has a sugar daddy who pays Dr. 90210?  Weird.

If you’re like us, there are many times when you see an ad and just can’t quite figure out why in god’s name someone would actually think that it was a good idea to do.  That’s why we smile when we see product ads like these:

Serbians definitely know how to throw a kickin’ party. In fact so much so that partying must be one of the countries best exports. Today marks the beginning of the four day EXIT Festival, the annual summer music festival in the Petrovaradin fortress in Serbia. Started in 2000 by two University students, it has grown to become an amazing event with top flight performers, which this year include Snoop Dogg, Beastie Boys, Basement Jaxx, Roger Sanchez, John Digweed, Groove Armada, and Lauren Hill to name a few.

Fixie Bike

Having just read a great post from The Cajun Boy on the Emo Douche, I thought I was only fitting to educating our readers on the fixie, the bike of choice for Hipsters, The Emo Douche, and The Messenger Douche.  The fixie is a fixed gear bike with no gear ratio (i.e. the pedals always turn in the direction of the wheel, so you can’t coast and you are always pedaling).  In order to stop a Fixie, the rider generally applies pressure backwards on the pedals in order to slow the bike down (many fixie riders don’t even put on hand breaks on their bike).   This is cause for considerable confusion, given the fact that fixies are used by multiple types of douches in urban environments, places where quick breaking is essential.

How exactly the fixie rose to cult status is about as unclear as why the emo douche exists.  You may have seen fixie riders before at stop lights, trying to balance while still standing on the pedals, and showing off their sweet fixie riding skills.  Fixie riders often have large amorphous ugly plastic messenger bags, spacers in their ears, some don cycling caps to further stand out, and they usually roll up part of their Dickies pant leg so as not to get caught in the chain. Fixie riders also enjoy walking around with abnormally large chain locks for their bikes, a form of urban peacockery.

Palmolive

This one is not an easy call given the many similiarities between Olivia Palermo and Palmolive. Both are widely recognized name brands (Palmolive for being a cleaning agent, Olivia for being a socialite). Both have an hourglass shape. Both contain the word “olive” or a cognate thereof in their names. Both have shiny exteriors that glimmer. Olivia Palermo is an anagram for Palmolive Liar. But in the end, we must go with Palmolive because it serves an actual purpose in our lives.

Denise Kaufmann

Denise Kaufmann Razzouk, the second most connected person on A Small World (asmallworld.net), the uber exclusive social-network for jet-setters and euros, was recently interviewed and asked questions about herself and her new handbag line.  We have yet to see many of her wares, but it will be interesting to see what she can leverage out of her recent small world fame, and see if there is any real sort of economic staying power to niche networks that cater to the supposed elite.
