The History of a Night Club, no Big Secret After All

Funny thing, the history of a nightclub….Just when you thought you found your spot, the place that you knew all the doormen by name and you always got a VIP table, they go and leave you. The question we are here to ask you though is does a nightclub ever truly end? Today we are here to present the rather interesting case of the space formally known as Float at 240 W 52nd St. Here goes:

[Temple aka T-bar]
You see Jeffrey Beers designed the space and was one of the original owners of Float, the club that had a large following and impressive run. Then comes along Muhamet Nikezi, Nick Nezaj, and Jimmy Celaj who together decide to dump millions into the space to open up Temple Club, which later on they try and revamp as T Bar (pictured above). Thus MGN LLC is formed.

Now comes the fun part. For months, people have been talking about this new club named “Touch” opening up in the old float space. The owners have yet to come forward, though many have claimed millions of dollars have been dumped into the joint to resurrect it. Some are stating upwards of $8 million dollars. They are hoping to bring back the nightlife to the Times Square Area, hoping to compete with 1Oak to “change the face of nightlife”, hoping you’ll go there for New Years, and are opening TOMORROW. Well secret no more. After some digging we sniffed out that the “joint owners” are really know more than the ‘T’ loving MGN LLC group from earlier. Here’s how we know…the domain registrant of their website touchnewyorkcity.com is the same as their old website one for temple/t bar (tnewyorkcity.com)….the guy Muhamet Nikezi is the administrative contact (same owner). Here is the info for touchnewyorkcity.com:

Even the PHONE NUMBERS and extensions are the same as T!

We recently just called and spoke with “Gavin” (who also use to be involved with Temple/T) who offered us a “no-can-do” attitude when we pressed for the names of the owners. So why the secrecy?? Maybe they are taking the cue from Cafe Bari’s Upstairs and are realizing how people take to that sort of thing. Or maybe because Temple and T were a bomb, they don’t want to stress their past track record?
Their official press release states that “After a multimillion-dollar renovation by a top team of seasoned industry veterans, Touch nightclub and event space is primed to open November 15, 2007. It seems this time they have some bigger players involved in the design, sound, and lighting….but can an old dog really learn new tricks? We shall see tomorrow night when John Legend, Wyclef Jean and May Anderson will celebrate the wrap of “The Source” starring Francesca Cecil.

it is already a flop, the owners are scumbags and that is why it keeps failing. hey never pay their bills, left an army of creditors behind…I give it a nother 2 months if that!
[...] seems like nightclub reincarnations are in vogue these days with Touch being the revamped Temple Bar/T/Float, and now Kiss and Fly. But then again, there are no more liquor licenses available in the meat [...]
the opening party at touch ended up being good to my surprise. that actress francesca cecil is soooo hot though. i’d go back just to see her.
LOVED IT!!!! I’m sorry but the NYC club scene has been so stagnant of late. The place is gorgeous and the vibe and music was unreal. Will be going back for sure.
The place sucked… I felt like the crowd was all of the people in high school that no one was friends with. The tables were pretty much on the dance floor. Best part of the night was the cheap lipgloss I got in the goody bag- needless to say I will not be returning.
I thought the place was off the hook. The girl to guy ratio was great, and I didn’t see an ugly broad in the place. The only thing that sort of pissed me off was that I had a table, and they still made me do a mandatory coat check. This normally wouldn’t bother most people, but if you’re a smoker and you constantly have to wait in the coatcheck line to get your jacket so you don’t freeze your ass off it can be a annoying. Also, there was no organization when stepping outside to have a stog. Other than that, I thought it was a nice place.
The place was great. Sound system was insane. I actually liked that there were tables surrounding the dance floor, but we ended up getting one on the balcony instead. Warning though: this place is not for the bridge and tunnel crowd ….you’re not going to see wifebeaters, hoodrats or big jersey hair. You actually have to look good to get into a place. Also, it wasn’t bad trying to get a drink. Usually if you want to get a drink other than the bottle at your table its an hour until you can get close enough to the stupid bar. Five stars so far…lets see if they can keep it up.
Partied it up at the opening with Snoop Dogg and Rev Run!! Then went back when Brody from the Hills was hosting a party–so far both times have been amazing. Touch is hands down the best time my friends and I have had a club in a while.
Maria??? “The place sucked”??? I am confused by your comments. I am curious what type of high school you went to, because I have never seen a better crowd in my life. You were right the 1st floor tables were on the dance floor, but that is only the first floor. Regardless, if you’re a regular of the NYC nightlige you know that lounges don’t even have a dance floor… You usually end up dancing at ur table or on top of the furniture. So I am confused what the complaint is about. lol. Regardless, you must have missed me hovering above you at the VIP tables on the 2nd floor overlooking the dance floor. Truth be told, I don’t even remember much about the night (they gave out gift bags??)… The only thing I do remember is that it was a great time… I guess I won’t see u there this time around. Have fun at the clubs where the tables aren’t on the dance floor, oh wait, no hot clubs/lounges have dance floors to begin with.
it was a great party. I really want to know when is Kiss and fly opening is ?
How can i be invited to the opening? I am a cool girl and Iam a Bottle Server in one of the clubs in the city …but havent got the invitation and i really don’t want to ask the girls who i used to work with at one of the Hamptons clubs (and who are going to work for Kiss and Fly) to get me in….can you help???

Touch is hot Saturdays….It sad how everyone is stuck on these little bullsh*t lounges, where there is no room to dance.. whatever happened to the nightlife being about dancing… At leat at touch you have room to dance and really feel like you are out in a real club… Ny has been pathetic for the last 8 years, hopefull the big clubs like Touch come back… I give them credit for making such a big place feel cozy…and the place is beautiful….
