Chanel reopened last night on 64th and Madison. The magnificent crowd, the dazzling fine jewelry; it is a tough call to say who outshined who. Let’s call it a symbiotic tie. The real winner, however, is Chanel-with several pieces of jewelry sold last night.

She has a sharp beauty that slaps you in the face and says “Look at me, I’m gorgeous.” No less than five fabulous women surrounded Paul Johnson-Calderon at any time throughout the night. Douglas Hannant and Frederick Anderson managed to stop by after their new resort collection hit the runway. Chanel’s Sr Vp of watches and fine jewelry, Laurent Grosgogeat mingled with guests Anna Mouglalis and Kate Schelter. Fabiola Beracasa looked great in a starry Chanel dress.
Chanel designed twelve new all diamond rings in celebration of the reopening. My favorite ring is the 2.5ct princess cut center, $160k ring with the diamond bow. It embodies the legacy of Chanel with a whimsical romance.
Coco Chanel’s apartment, 31 Rue Cambon, served as muse to architect Peter Marino as he updated the store’s interior. The reference was in tribute to the founder and well interpreted. One surely feels the history whilst walking across the black granite floors. The inspiration transcends the architecture into the décor with original works resembling Chanel’s own by artists Francois-Xavier Lalanne, Yto Barrada and Joseph Stashkevetch.
