Charity: Water – A Celebration Was In Order

Sometimes we think a luxury in life is getting a ride to the Hamptons as opposed to having to take the Jitney. What if I told you that perhaps one of your greatest luxuries, which may go unnoticed on a daily basis, is your running water. Or for that matter, your ability to pick up a bottle of water anywhere you go. Water is everywhere: it keeps you clean, it keeps you hydrated and it keeps you alive. And yes, it’s only water. Yet there are some places, beyond here, where life is barely sustainable because of the lack of water. Millions in third world nations are suffering because the water supply is limited and the water can be found is contaminated and would kill you.

Enter Charity: Water: An amazing organization started by Scott Harrison to “fund projects that include the installation and rehabilitation of freshwater systems, as well as the formation and training of local water committees who are empowered to maintain the systems, and promote better sanitation and hygiene for the community, resulting in overall improvement in the quality of life”. (description taken from charitywater.org)

Basically through donations and awareness Charity: Water has gotten into areas where help is needed most in Africa and decontaminated the water and built wells that provide running water. For this, people’s lives are saved, improved and fulfilled. It only costs $5,000 and a lot of love to build a well that will save lives and improve villages.

When the solution is a thriving one, it is necessary to raise more money to make it grow in order to help MORE PEOPLE! When a charity has done such great things for a cause why not celebrate? Why not throw a big party, invite fashionable & recognizable celebrities, socialites and New York’s finest and only charge $100 dollars a ticket, of which 100% goes to Charity: Water development. Such was the case last night at the Charity: Water Annual Summer Gala at Saks 5th Avenue. Last night turned out to be the perfect opportunity to see and be seen on the 10th floor at Saks 5th Avenue New York as we celebrated Charity: Water’s successes.

Amazing supporters for Charity: Water were there from models (Jessica Stam) to notable fashion designers (Diane Von Furstenberg & Carlos Miele) and actresses (Leven Rambin & Mischa Barton) to many fine social dilettantes (oh just read below!). The party was a HIT and a lot of money was raised to help charity: water expand to India and Bangladesh in 2008.

Some of the wonderful people that we spotted and mingled with were Scott Harrison (Charity Water Founder), Steve Sadove (Saks CEO), Karin Sadove, Suzie Johnson, Jessica Stam, Carlos Miele, Diane Von Furstenberg, Ashley Verrier, Leven Rambin, Caroline Rowley, David Gruning (who originally introduced Saks to Charity:Water), Emma Snowdon-Jones, Fern Mallis, Mischa Barton, Avery Broadbent, Anne Marie Pimentel, Ben Pundole, Bill Goodman, Chance Yeh, Cassie Coane, Tiet Powers, Tom Florio, Wesly Wang, Cory Booker, Dennis Wong, Jennifer Johnson, Peter Nichols, Simon van Kempen, Justin Schaffer, Alex McCord, Kerry Cassidy, Laura Rubin, Elettra Wiedemann Rossellini, Mark Baker, Katrina Zervas, Harley Viera-Newton, Stan Herman, Indira Cesarine, Katrina Szish, , Irina Krupnik, Nick Graham, Michael Sonberg, Ruta Samukenaite, Pavan Pardasani, Nigel Sylvester, Renata Castro, Santiago Gonzalez, Rocco Ancarola, Sasha Franklyn and Sim Dan Kem.
