“Wow what a crowd!…how do we get a beer around here.”-Stephanie Wei
I’m currently in Seattle, Washington (more specifically, Bellevue, which is right outside the city) visiting my parents. I grew up and lived in Bellevue until I fled east to Yale for college and subsequently moved to NYC upon graduating. Basically, I haven’t been around much for the past seven years.
I’d almost forgotten how great Seattle is in the months of July and August. However, I do always argue that there’s nowhere else better to be in the continental U.S. during July and August than Seattle. I stand by that statement, particularly after this current trip. I also believe that Seattle may be the country’s best kept secret…but I digress.

It’s a slow news day. If I have to hear another person bring up that weird Montauk Monster this week I may lose it. Leave the guy alone already! It’s just not something I need to be staring at each morning over breakfast. (Though you can go here to vote on what you think it is). Alas it’s time for some real news! And this IS exciting. Lola Staar’s Dreamland Roller Rink is re-opening. Maybe this is a sign that the new redevelopment plan for Coney Island is actually working. We are just excited we have a place to throw our roller-skating birthday parties at…after The Roxy sadly left us hanging.

Meet Alex Berardi. This 22-year-old New York native has joined forces with his Browning high school classmate, Christopher M. Kulukundis, to jumpstart fashion house Alexander Berard-New York. The designer describes the company as “Upper East Side’s homegrown couturiers, with its 10th custom-made creation rolling off the production line at the end of next week”.
While the label does “enjoy working one on one with private clients” it is by no means limited to them. The design team recently formed a partnership with Prina Design House, the force that has worked with such brands as Tory Burch, Threeasfour, and Proenza Schouler. Mr. Berardi has spent this summer working on his debut ready to wear line, which is set to hit luxury retailers next spring.
From our Tip Box:
“Is Francisco Civetta no longer Izzy Gold? Seems like Izzy Gold is now being played by Chris Young. Why aren’t Francisco Civetta and Brad Leinhardt friends anymore? Has there been a rift? Has Brad hijacked Izzy Gold? Does the mohawked Chris Young spin at Gold Bar? Please get to the bottom of this GoaG.”
Don’t worry, we are well into the bottom of this and will have it sorted out for you soon!
Today’s Fame Game Matchup is between two of our cities well known socialistos: Micah Jesse vs. Kristian Laliberte. Sure, they cater to very different crowds, but they are bound to run into each other now and then….Unsurprisingly, Micah has a bit more work to do if he’s ever going to catch up to Kristian who has held as high as a #2 ranking! Though he’s only 22, kid’s got a lot of time to rise up!

I hate that we are already discussing fall fashion, but alas, August is almost here and soon, we will be unpacking our knit sweaters and layering pieces once again. NY&Company took the lead as hosting one of the first fall fashion preview parties last night in their showroom on 33rd street. Marielle Gelber, the PR Manager showed off the collection.
The gifts, goodies, and show-stopping fall fashion showings lasted from 6:00-8:00 and our gofg guest Rachel was there to get a sneak peak at the goods.
Why, WHY do this city’s MetroCard machines continue to break down? Particularly on days that my unlimited monthly pass expires and I have to walk 10 minutes to the nearest station, where the machine is also, serendipitously, non-functional–and then walk back to my original station? I always thought this kind of thing only happened to me because I’m forever cursed with bad transit luck- More »
She may have an ultra hip brother, but Ford model Amanda Shine shines on her own. Whether blond, brunette, dressed up or down; every time I see Amanda she is radiating! Amanda is a fitting example of how clothes are always secondary to confidence and beauty….she could really wear a potato sack and look great, our modern Aphrodite.
