Daily Style Phile: Screenwriter Jack Bryan’s Style Working With The Ladies

[Can you spot the guy the ladies go gaga for?]
Jack Bryan has one of the most extensive lists of “favorite movies” on his Facebook profile that I have ever seen. Would you expect anything less from a young hip screenwriter? A recent graduate from The New School, Jack worked on a number of film sets before being hired as the youngest screenwriter ever at Michael Mailer Films. He is now finishing his documentary Life After Dark: The Story of Siberia, while working at the Sundance Channel, and he is Quest Magazine’s new “The Young and the Guest List” columnist (GofG’s Rooftop Party will be featured in his first column). His style is everything you would anticipate from a working filmmaker from NY who frequents the Beatrice Inn and hobnobs with the young socialite set. See what Peter Davis wrote about the rising star, why the ladies drool over the guy, and that list of movies he holds in his collection….

Round 1: Julia Allison’s Betty Boop Halloween Costume
Julia asked for suggestions on her Halloween costume, and we have obliged. Between now and October 31st, we will be brainstorming for this Internet fameball, Gawker party crasher, subject of a soon-to-be canceled reality show, and nonsociety co-founder. Last friday we suggested Minnie Mouse. Today we’ve changed our mind. Betty Boop it is.
Bill Maher Can’t Believe What Everyone Believes

[Photo by JIMI CELESTE for Patrick McMullan]
When it comes to religion, comedian Bill Maher is clearly a man of many opinions, or lack there of and is not afraid to loudly express why he thinks your religion is a crock of bleep! Maher readies himself to “debunk the man behind the curtain” and hilariously explores this not-so hilarious topic by hitting the streets Borat-style to get some insight into what everybody believes in and why in his new film, Religulous.
To kick off the October 3rd release of Maher’s film, some of the funniest faces in New York gathered yesterday afternoon for lunch at Brasserie Ruhlmann. Bill Maher’s pals included Joy Behar, Caroline Rhea, Kathleen Turner, Debra Winger, Steve Guttenberg, Jeneane Garofalo, Liz Smith, Caroline Hirsch, Bob Balaban, Nora Ephron, and the ever-so controversial Tatum O’Neal.

In These Tough Economic Times, May We All Give PBR A Chance

[Barack Obama raises a glass of Pabst Blue Ribbon at the Raleigh Times Bar in Raleigh, NC Photo via Reuters]
First there was Eric Asimov’s piece titled “Modest Luxuries For Lean Times” [NYT] on September 23rd. Then came “Wines For Tough Times” [WSJ] on the 27th by Dorothy J. Gaiter and John Brecher. Next there was famed wine critic Robert Parker calling for a boycott of restaurants that unfairly jack up their wine prices in the “Wine Spectator” (most restaurants mark up wine to an exorbitant 200 to 500 percent) on the 29th, which prompted NY Mag’s Grub Street to write a post titled “Good Wine In A Bad Economy.”
Well today, the market’s not looking to clean up it’s act anytime soon, and, although winos at heart we may be, might we suggest PBR as a reliable alternative during these tough times? Even Obama is advocating a CHANGE in our drinking style.

Last night, Christie’s (along with Elle Decor) hosted the launch party of the Celerie Kemble Collection for Schumacher. Schumacher & Co. has been around since 1889 and has decorated the interiors of the White House, the Chambers of the US Supreme Court and countless distinguished residences. It is the only supplier of decorative textiles from the 19th century still privately owned and managed by direct descendants of the founder.
