This Thanksgiving, we have so much to be thankful for. Besides living in the best city in the world, in a country that we are proud to call home, we are thankful for our job, our friends, and our families. This includes all of our readers, our hard working interns, our photographers, and contributors. We are thankful for the material you all have provided us over the year to cover, and the people we have met along the way.
Special thanks to Scott and Naeem for always getting us first hand accounts of the best parties and events, to Steve Lewis (for his unwavering support), and Lockhart Steele for telling us what’s up. Thanks to DBTH, Emily “The Eldridge” Brill, and the entire cast of NonSociety for giving us so much material to cover. Thanks to the Hamptons, Christopher Confessore, Douglas Marshall, Claire Willett, Kendra Seay, Carolina Francesca, Ari Cohen, Maggie Hunter, Sarah Jaffe, Kristina Jacobs, Katie Byrnes, John Norwood, Stephanie Wei, Christine Cho, Eric Spear, and everyone else that has been part of our growing team. Thank you to Stanley Wanley for keeping us all on our toes. Finally, thank god for Fridays off!
Gobble ’til you wobble folks! See you Monday!

Last night began with a committee meeting for the Trinity Place Holiday Fundraiser. Trinity is a homeless shelter for LBGT teens in Manhattan. Our event is being held next Tuesday, December 2nd at Aspen Nightclub. Scott was asked to be on the benefit committee by our friend Matt Tratner and others on the committee include old friends Scott Sigler and Douglas Hill along with new friends including Josh Wood, Oscar Apaydinli, Russ Williamson and Mike Ruiz. We definitely encourage everyone to try and stop. It is for a great cause and tickets are only $25 to drink all night! Now that’s a bargain in these recessionary times!

Last night, I braved to the cold to head out for Thrillist’s 3-year anniversary at Greenhouse, the new eco-friendly club by Jon B’s team. Thanks to Flavie Bagnol for whisking me out of the bone-chilling night into the pre-party in the downstairs space. Upon entrance, I was handed my “door prize,” a seemingly innocuous business card for Thrillist - but wait! what’s on the other side? A pithy phrase (pic at bottom) seemingly to put us back in our places if we were feeling too cool for being admitted, reminiscent of the slave following the victorious Caesar, whispering, “hominem te memento.” (See photo of card below). The crowd I shouldered my way through, was made easier to take by pizza from Lassonyc and of course booze from party sponsors Dos Equis, Jose Cuervo, and uncorked.com (I had a bit of each), and the random arrival of my brother Nick, who was “just in the neighborhood”.

Kitchen Sync. I am a big geek, however kitchen geek, I am not. I’m learning. And tomorrow? I promised to host a big Turkey dinner at my abode. Thankfully I have a professional chef (and good friend) to help, however I suppose I will need to do SOMETHING. And, if I’m going to start cooking, I want to start by having the coolest gadget in my kitchen. This Kitchen Sync by Noah Balmer is a wireless dock that has a touch and washable screen for you to load and browse recipes online with. I like the fact that if this whole cooking venture doesn’t work out for me, I can just download a movie online and watch it while looking on at the real chefs.

[Marian Goodman with John Baldessari and one of his pieces. Photos by DAVID X PRUTTING for PMc]
Tuesday night the Marian Goodman Gallery held the opening reception for artist John Baldessari’s Raised Eyebrows/ Furrowed Foreheads show. Like he did in his other series ‘Noses & Ears, Etc,’ or Arms and Legs (Specif. Elbows and Knees), Etc’, Baldessari used his paintings from the ’50s as the source that he explores using space and color. This series “continues the artist’s exploration of human identity through the fragmentation of parts of the body.” The opening brought out a definite sense of joy and excitement in its viewers- perhaps having to do with the colorful accents residing in his pieces.

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. I grew up with a father who was the eldest of 13. Our Thanksgiving table was long and plentiful. This Thanksgiving, I am thankful for a childhood filled with family, food, and wine. I am thankful that I had uncles to play football with and cousins to elbow at the dinner table. Alas, before we get into our own gofg thankful list, I thought I would ask around town and find out what everyone else was thankful for. And so….duh duh duh (drumroll), a list of over 50 of NYC socials tell me what they are most thankful for this Thanksgiving:
Steve Levis (of Goodnightmrlewis): I am thankful that I can make a living from my art. I am thankful for the blessing of my girlfriend Nicole and the hope that Barack Obama gives us.
-
Patrick McMullan (of PMc): I am naturally thankful for the usual things Friends and Family and Hope, but especially because I have 5 days in a row In the country With Mom, Sister Sharon, and son liam. Yeh!
Kelly Cutrone (of People’s Revolution/”The Hills” fame): My daughter Ava.
-
Paul Johnson Calderon (of Paper Magazine): I am most thankful for my wonderful friends and amazing family. I am thankful for president elect Barack Obama. I am also thankful for the clarity and peace of mind that comes with growth and enlightenment. I am thankful to be living out my dreams, and most importantly I am thankful for my heath and happiness. Oh, I’m also thankful for the mega feast that is about to ensue!!
Leven Rambin (actress): I am thankful for God always giving me a sign when I ask him too. It’s nice to have someone looking out for me in LA!
-
Liam McMullan: I am thankful that Obama is alive and well, and for all of the amazing people that make my life worth living. Like you.
-
Mickey Boardman (of Paper Magazine): I’m thankful for the election of Barack Obama and also I’m trying to be thankful that the hateful passage of Proposition 8 in California is galvanizing the gays into taking a stand for Human Rights. Also I’m thankful I’ll be spending Thanksgiving in India since I’m a vegetarian jet setter I’m much happier nibbling on a chana saag in Varanasi than eating cranberry sauce at my parents house in Daytona Beach, Florida
Kristian Laliberte: I never celebrate Thanksgiving in the typical American or Canadian way–the dinner with all the trimmings, the big familial get together–we reserve that for Christmas. Instead, I always go out of the country with my parents who, approriately enough, are whom I most thankful for. Their unwavering support in a pretty difficult year for me has been more than anyone could ever ask.
