NYC Writers, Artists, and Socials Share Their New Years Resolutions
New Years is a time for reflection. And to help end the year 2008, a year in which we saw our most positive growth yet, I called on some of my “Guests” that have helped make Guest of a Guest a success. Here’s what their resolutions were (if you don’t know who the person is, click on their name for more about them):
-
Emily Giffin (NYT bestselling author): “No more texting while driving. Same as last year.”
-
Patrick McMullan (Photographer): “Mine is to relax and work more on patience.”
-
Lelaine Lau (403 Founder): “No more older men!!”
-
-
Steve Lewis (Nightlife legend and BlackBook writer): “My resolution is to be true to my school , happy with what I have and to help those around me to the best of my abilities.”
-
Bess Levin (Editor in Chief, Dealbreaker): “Dealbreaker’s resolution is to convince Morgan Stanley to unblock us!”
-
Anisha Lakhani (Bestselling author of “Schooled”): “To be the best friend I can be to the people I love, and to learn to embrace my new life.”

“The City” Premieres….Without The “Sex And” Can Whitvia Stand On Their Own?

[Olivia Palermo and Whitney Port]
The answer is no. (But did you like my Brangelina-fication of “Whitney” and “Olivia”?) I will be the first to admit that I was excited to watch this show. I know Olivia in real life, as do all of my friends and, well, who wouldn’t be excited to see someone they knew on a scripted reality tv show on MTV? So, even though we are miles and miles away on a different island (read all about my adventures HERE on my tumblr), we sat through the full episodes via MTV.com last night.
At GofG we try to accentuate the positive in things. So I will start by saying that Olivia Palermo looked beautiful on screen, as she always has in real life. That may be the most I can muster. Without the “Sex and” in the title, it made for a pretty boring show. They paint Olivia Palermo off to be the uptown socialite bitch (even though she lives in Tribeca and is actually pretty nice). In case you have no idea who this “socialite” is (who btw was coincidentally repped by People’s Revolution, yes that’s right there are several girls in NYC that have publicists just because), check out all of our previous coverage of her below.

On to the show, and the 411 on who was seated at Olivia’s dinner party:

Steve Lewis Meets Lydia Hearst At BlackBook

[Lydia Hearst finally meets Steve Lewis. Photo via BlackBook]
So I’ve missed more than a couple of things. Here’s another: two of our favorites (Steve Lewis and Lydia Hearst) finally meet (yes, they did host that Thanksgiving bowling party together at Lucky Strike, but anyone that’s played host knows how hard it is to meet and greet everyone). So, want to know what was exchanged? Check out GoodNightMrLewis for the scoop…and expect some good things in store after my absence, because even Guests need breaks.

The City Has Arrived….New Year’s Plans Put On Hold

[Whitney Port and Olivia Palermo Meet Manolo Blahnik, Photo via PMC]
You thought I forgot didn’t you? Well I did, almost. Almost. Can’t a girl get a vacation?! Alas, my full report on what I did and did not think about “The City” to come tomorrow morning, straight from another island, far, far away from Manolos and Bergdorfs.
To read about the girls meeting Manolo himself ala episode two when it really happened, on September 15, click here: [Whitney Port and Olivia Palermo: Newest Carrie Bradshaws In Town]
Another thing I missed, Uncle Steve over at BlackBook naming us the best blog in town. What a guy!

“Books Make Good Bedfellows” A Witty Resolution Care Of Tatiana Platt
I went around asking for some New Years Resolutions from some in-the-know New Yorkers last week. I will be sharing with you their answers tomorrow but thought that famegame’s Tatiana Platt came up with quite a resolution, one that deserved it’s own post:“My New Year’s Resolutions for 2009 are about being more inspired and taking wisdom from the amazing books I have read this last year:
#1 Trust my gut (Outliers, by Malcolm Gladwell)#2 Live in the moment (The Power of Now, by Eckhart Tolle)

“Best $2k I Ever Spent!” Jonathan Famous’ 25th Birthday At Almacen

[Jonathan Famous gets some birthday love]
It may have landed close to the Holiday festivities, but that didn’t stop several of Jonathan Sollis (aka Johnny Famous)’s friends from gathering to celebrate his 25th birthday. The party was held at Almacen, the new restaurant in Williamsburg (Driggs between north 7th and 6th), owned by Florencia Galaraza, friend of the birthday boy. The entire place was shut down for Johnny Boy and his friends including many of our LOLA friends, as well as lots of cute babes….All present, in Brooklyn to celebrate the true mayor of nolita.
