Last night, I was honored to be included as a judge at Dressed to Kilt, the annual Scottish inspired fashion show for charity hosted by Sir Sean Connery and wife Lady Micheline. Marking its seventh year, Dressed to Kilt has been dubbed “the highest profile Scottish event in the United States.” The highly-anticipated event features kilted gents and plaid-clad ladies strutting their stuff down the runway for an A-list of judges.  More»

People from all walks came out last night to support DIFFA’s 2009 DINING BY DESIGN National Tour: architecture, fashion design, the arts, consumer products and… reality television? DIFFA, which stands for Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS, held a gala dinner event last night at Pier 94, including table-hopping and showing of the design installations, a delicious dinner with wine pairings, and a conclusion of dancing and a silent auction.

For those of you who can’t keep up with the onslaught of new pizzeria’s opened since the new year, I’m with ya….Good thing I stumbled upon Kest? Pizza E Vino on my daily walks to the Path. The much hyped Neapolitan-style pizzeria and wine bar had been featured everywhere from Grub Street to Serious Eats before it officially opened this Sunday. Following its progress for months, I had the pleasure to sample some off-the-menu items and experience one of those unforeseen New York moments we all love. More»

Carolina Herrera and her daughter, er, Carolina Herrera launched the CH fragrance last night in the Carolina Herrera suite, located on Madison Avenue. The fragrance is just one of many in a collection for the famous brand. The launch was celebrated in typical Carolina Herrera fashion, with lots of people whose names we can’t pronounce and huge blown up pictures of herself. In all seriousness, the mother/daughter collaboration is sure to see as much success with this fragrance as they have with their others, as well as their clothing. More photos below… More»

Last night the Plaza Hotel was hopping to the sounds of Grammy Winners Wyclef Jean and violinist Miri Ben-Ari, who performed as Phoenix House presented its 2009 Phoenix Rising Award to Lisa Ellis. Among the guests honoring Ms. Ellis were Paul and Dan Fireman, Rose Marie Bravo, Eli and Abby Manning, Sarah Chapman, Rick Fox, Cristie Kerr and Erik Stevens, John Legend, David Lipman, Will McDonough, Shaun and Amy O’Hara, Shari Redstone, Aaron Sells, Robert Souza, Michael Strahan, Gus Williams, and Josh Zeide. Are you unemployed? Well, today’s your lucky day, because you get a chance to take part in The Unemployment Olympics starting at 1:30pm at Tompkins Square Park.  All you need to bring is your proof of unemployment (ie: NYC unemployment card, letter from old employer, bank statement). Saturday marked the end of the Winter Music Conference down in Miami with a huge concert “Ultra” where techno fans alike had to dress in neon and finish what they started: a fest of 250 DJ’s on 8 stages in two days ala Woodstock.  We have to wait until summer until this conference comes to NYC…with holded breath of course.
