Street Artist Mark Jenkins Creates Tape Sculptures Around The World

by Neesha Arter · May 31, 2012

American artist Mark Jenkins is at it again, giving free shows of his street art installations. His art is all over the world, on top of buildings and billboards as well as in the middle of street signs.  Jenkins has been known for using box sealing tape in his past work but showcases a variety of materials in this show.

Jenkins' first  attempt at experimental art was taping his whole body and finding out that the tape was too tight. Jenkins spoke to Reuters about why he does the installations:

"I like getting people to question their surroundings, what is real and what isn't. These days, people are so buried in their mobile phones and I just wanted to get them to look up. So at the beginning, I was collecting social data about people's reactions. But six years later, these images are more about poetry, of capturing a magical moment."

This installation exposes Jenkins' creativity with life size sculptures and unique art pieces ranging from a man pretending to be fishing on a roof to someone taking a nap in construction tape. So next time you're out and about, don't forget to look up-- Jenkins could be working in your city!
