The Chicken Box is a Nantucket institution. It’s shamelessly grimy and crowded, but the best word to describe it is amazing. Legendary cover bands like Thunder Roads and Joshua Tree shut down the night after you’ve made the rounds: Trap, Gazebo, Straight Wharf and once upon a time *tear*, Schooners (for a fishbowl, obvi). If you’re lucky enough, Jimmy Buffet will stroll in and play an impromptu set. The drinks are strong and the prospects heavy. You haven’t been on island unless you’ve jumped around with your friends belting out a classic tune, clinking glasses and thinking it might be the best night, ever. And that’s just Saturday at the Box. (Team GofG got onstage!)

There’s always a big loitering party once the Box shuts down and everyone is kicked out. The best place to observe the antics is from the top of a car. Obviously.
