File this one under: "Geeks need to let loose too" and "You know you've made it as a website when you have parties thrown for your COMMENTERS!" When you graduate from "Gawker Highschool" you get commenting rights....then you get to go off on tangents with the other gawky geeks for the most fun you will have all day. Ah the Gawker commenters....many have the wit of the writers themselves, and they don't even have to quit their day jobs to get in on the action. Though it doesn't cost anything, you have to be accepted to be able to comment on the site. Just keep this in mind: no one is above money bribes, not even Nick Denton.
