Apes & Androids Color Up The Music Hall Of Williamsburg
Rolling Stone has called Apes & Androids: “A dance floor-ready cocktail of Queen’s bombast (complete with Freddie Mercury’s falsetto), 1980s Prince, Ziggy Stardust-era Bowie and Beck’s Midnight Vultures.” And last Friday was no different. As the band wowed the crowd at the Music Hall of Williamsburg, Nicky Digital went backstage to capture the band as they prepared with loads of balloons.

What does Adrien Grenier do when he’s not playing lackadaisical Hollywood supernova Vince on HBO’s super successful, fantastical TV show ‘Entourage’? Heath Ledger’s Bar Five Leaves Officially Opens
Heath Ledgers’ Bar “Five Leaves” has just opened up in Brooklyn. Urbandaddy has the scoop:
First, the designer is the man behind such barroom favorites as Moto, Smith and Mills and Tailor, so you’ll notice the same attention to detail, handcrafted look and hint of cool about the place. The end effect is a bar that Thomas Edison might have built for his buddies.
It’s all meant to be a super casual California- and Australia-tinged cafe, coffeehouse and oyster bar, with greenmarket snacks like Sliced Radishes on Toast with Evans Farmhouse Butter. And starting with tonight’s friends and family opening party, you’ll probably see a few famous faces amongst the Billyburg faithful.

Wilco Takes On Brooklyn
I am consistently blown away by any live Wilco performance. Last night’s show at McCarren Park was no exception - a gorgeous evening with a nice breeze, standing but a few meters away from the stage where Jeff Tweedy in his stylin’ lime green blazer was clearly in my line of vision - who could ask for a more serene and blissful August evening?

The Meaning Behind “The Five Leaves”
From Anonymous commenter today on our Five Leaves post:
“I don’t think Heath rolled Swans… however he had stated that his favourite artist was a man by the name of Nick Drake whom had a album named “Five Leaves Left.” That most likely is how the name came about. Anyhow I’m sure the bar will be incredible and is a great way to remember a great actor.”
Maybe DBTH was wrong about where the name came from….but he did go all the way across the river to snatch the pictures for us (that he is so adamant about us crediting). In any event, we agree that the place will most likely be a good way to remember the great actor.

Heath Ledger Rolled His Cigarettes In Swan Papers?
There’s a new bar on the watch list. The corner of Lorimer and Bedford, in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, is set to be home of “The Five Leaves”, a bar that will be opened by one of Heath Ledger’s good friends. In fact, Ledger was a “key backer of the project and was going to be a full partner.” (From “Heath Ledger’s Final Act.”):
His untimely death put the project in jeopardy, but his father became executor of the estate, and because he knew how much the project meant to Heath, he released the funds to finish construction. The name Five Leaves is a working name, and comes from Swan cigarette papers that tell you when there are just five left in a package. [DBTH]
