Something New At The Chelsea Market: Paula Parrish
Last night was the opening reception Paula Parrish’s collection of photographs at The Chelsea Market. Guests were flowing throughout the Chelsea Market, with free Stella Artois in hand, admiring Parrish’s beautiful and sometimes eerie work. Parrish’s photographs will be displayed at The Chelsea Market through September 15th. Be sure to grab a bite and enjoy the photographs that are displayed throughout the whole market!
LGBT: Screening Of Anyone And Everyone
Yesterday the LGBT Community Center in Chelsea played host to a screening of the new PBS documentary Anyone and Everyone. Spotlighting a range of families from all walks of life and documenting the candid, and touching reactions and struggles to their children”s coming-out and living an openly gay lifestyle.
Acclaimed filmmaker Susan Polis Schutz spoke of the movie as being a labor of love she knew she had to make once her own son came out to her husband and her. Polis said her son”s visible difficulty coming to terms with his sexuality in the world made her realize that she had to make this film for other families going through the same thing.
Chelsea Gallery Openings: Blogging and Art and Sex Partners You Wouldn’t Mind
Everyone knows Thursday evenings are full of gallery openings, not only does that mean free wine, but a free chance to see some fresh, new artwork. After scoping out the agenda for Chelsea tonight, I thought Blog It: New Wave of New Wave would be of most interest to those of you reading out there. But, by far the award for best title goes to The Guys We Would Fuck. This is merely a taste of the art, tomorrow I”ll give you the grades and decide who made the cut and who didn”t.

The Chelsea Neighbors United To End The War
It has become a bit of a stereotype to think of war protesters as young college-bound kids with bleeding hearts on their sleeves and a never-ending list of sophomoric remarks on what was going on. You would think of the people most against this war to be almost a fad, unless you were in Central Park on Mother’s Day when the Granny Peace Brigade marched through Central Park chanting their desire to end the war in Iraq. One would have thought it was an exception to the rule, but then I stumbled upon this group….
Paying Homage To Our Inspiration: Bungalow 8
I want to write about last night’s Rock Band party (was a smashing success), about the dapper Patrick McMullan and his annual St. Patty’s day party at HOME (it’s amazing to me, btw, how much the people attending a party matter to the place, as HOME had a MAJOR transformation away from its guido-dome last night), and even how it still makes my week to bump into nonagenarian Zelda Kaplan, dancing the night away underneath her hats that hold the stories of our city’s posh party crowds. But, right now, before I do anything else, I must pay my due respect to Bungalow 8…
Bungalow 8 is nothing more than an old building in Chelsea, with potted palmetto trees, faded black and white striped/polka dotted booths, and painted walls that are supposed to make you feel like you are in a cottage at the Beverly Hills Hotel. The “No Vacancy” sign over its door is to remind you that there’s no room for you…unless of course there is, which is entirely up to Disco. The location and decor are irrelevant at this point…because it is the people that bring those walls to life that have made Sacco’s creation a legendary institution.
Steve Lewis Interviews Noah Tepperberg
Good old Steve brings us this uber informative interview today with Noah Tepperberg co-owner of Marquee and founder of the Strategic Group. In it, he talks about the days when Marquee was nothing more than a wasted up wear house, his loyal clients, and his global empire including TAO and Dune, as well as the big business of clubs. Here’s some words of wisdom direct from Steve at the end:
“Is Marquee the best club in New York? Well, for people who like this type of club, sure. But Pacha offers a totally different type of club and so do Home, Splash, 40/40, and Webster Hall. Each operator does their own thing. Mark Baker, Noah Tepperberg, Carlo Seneca, and those we will meet going forward, each have their own way of doing things. Just like ballers and lawyers. For some it’s just the money; for others it’s the art or the lifestyle. For Noah and Jason it’s all of the above, along with the pride of being great at what they do. And that’s why they own the dominant club…business.”
