It takes more than being born into the right family - and the right genes - to make it in the jet-set crowd and the highest circles of New York society anymore. But for Julia Restoin-Roitfeld, daughter of French Vogue Editor-in-Chief Carine Roitfeld, it’s been a walk in the park. The New York transplant has a resume rivaling the top people her age - or older - in the fashion industry. And with a degree from Parsons, killer internships, steady work experience, and a modeling career to boot, it’s no surprise. With a love life as interesting as her background in the field of fashion, and a style worthy of being featured in her mother’s magazine, we’re lucky to have her on our side of the Atlantic… More»
[All photos from LAGIRLSNY & piaarrobio] Full of West Coast confidence and New York attitude, California transplant and Manhattan blogger Pia Arrobio, has successfully made a name and home for herself far away from her hometown in Pasadena. She chronicles her creative and fun exploits on her blog, aptly titled “fighting the war against blowing it”. Her style is eclectic; one day it’s luxe boho-chic, mixing high and low vintage pieces and fabulous fur, another she might feel like channeling her inner Courtney Love via lace, grunge, and rockstar pout. Currently enrolled in New School, Pia has come a long way from the plaid skirts required by the all-girls private school she attended in Los Angeles. More»
[Photo via PMc] It has seemed since the Olsen twins have been old enough to date, they have done an excellent job of keeping their private lives away from tabloids and the public eye (er, right). While some of you may know Ashley Olsen has been quietly dating Justin Bartha, an actor best known for his roles in National Treasure 1 & 2, for the past year, Ashley made a very public appearance at the MET Costume Institute Gala last night with her undercover beau. Besides his roles in the popular adventure films, what many of you don’t know about the actor is… well, anything. But now that he has been a staple on the arm of one of the city’s (and the nation’s) top fashion icons, we think it’s about time we take a look at the 30-year old hearthrob. Afterall, what could be better than an action star in a Dolce tux?
Topshop’s not the only thing in fashion being brought over from the Brits. The latest London craze taking over Manhattan (and the US, for that matter) is Alexa Chung, the multi-talented, bi-cultural beauty who is no longer reserving those long legs of hers for the runways - or the British airways. The model/television presenter/writer has just touched down from London-town: Just landed in the big apple. Its boiling! (5:28pm Apr 27th from Twitterberry) said @alexa_chung. She’s officially here, and just in time: The Alexa Chung Show premieres on June 15th on MTV, which will be a combo of celebrity interviews and musical performances. More»
If you are wondering how it’s possible for a girl like Dree Hemingway to just pop onto the social scene out of nowhere at the age of 21, you may want to spend a second Google-ing her alter ego. No, the ballerina-cum-model isn’t in the witness protection program, but the great-granddaughter of Ernest Hemingway has spent the majority of her life flying under the radar as Dree Crisman. Since embracing her famous middle name, like her mother Mariel Hemingway, she has signed with Elite models, been involved in multiple acting projects, appeared in everything from Vogue to Interview and was booked exclusively for the Givenchy Fall ‘09 runway. But even more so than what’s she’s doing, we’re really interested in what Miss Hemingway is wearing… More»
The Cobrasnake hopped to the other side of the pond recently, capturing some pretty cutting edge trend-setting at and around London’s Catch Bar. Londoners are always style innovators. I remember seeing lady Brits running around in leggings yeeeeeeeears ago, way before Lindsay Lohan wanted a piece or Blair Waldorf presciently declared, “Leggings are not pants!” More»
Heiress, designer, style icon, couture collector - Daphne Guinness holds many titles, and even though the “most stylish woman alive” has been around for decades (about four now), it seems as if those not en Vogue are just catching word of the badger-haired beauty. That’s right - you’re not seeing in black and white. The Brit’s hair is done up in streaks of black and white-blond, and has been for years. Her fashion trademark compliments her wardrobe of the black and white staples, recently worn out shopping in Soho (after the jump) with sky high platforms, a boyfriend blazer for the transitioning weather, and a Hermes bag. Congrats on walking in those things Daphne - and on the (aging) arm candy. More story and photos below… More»
Daily Style Phile: Stephanie Wei Takes Golf World By Storm With “Wei Under Par” Website
[Stephanie Wei with Betsey Johnson. Photo by PMc] Stephanie Wei has worn a lot of hats over the past couple of years. Besides writing for this site she has worked in fashion, finance, and philanthropy. She’s been featured in both the Observer and Page Six. However, her latest venture is perhaps the most defining of the essence of who Stephanie Wei is. That’s because it is the first one that is focused on her true passion. And, for many that think they know Stephanie, it might come as a bit of surprise: Stephanie eat, sleeps, and breaths GOLF. Before the shoes, the parties, and the boys; her heart beats for birdies. Before moving to NYC, Stephanie was a competitive golfer for 10 years! She played on the Yale Women’s Golf Team and still is an avid golf enthusiast. This week, Stephanie (finally) launched “Wei Under Par,” a site dedicated to her first love, and it already has received the attention of many pro golfers online.
Daily Style Phile: Kelly Bensimon, The Sporty And Adventurous Housewife Continues To Broaden Her Horizons
We met Kelly Bensimon last summer, when she wasn’t yet a “Real Housewife of New York” but just a mom, hanging out in the Hamptons with our friends at Plum TV (whom she did “Behind the Hedges With Kelly Killoren Bensimon” with). Since then, she has won over hearts on the show. Friends like Dan Honan describe Kelly as “sporty and adventurous” (indeed on Plum’s show they had her drive race cars, play Polo, and swimming with sharks off the coast of Montauk!) But at the heart of Kelly’s character is the desire to continually broaden her horizons.
