Today, we got quite the gem in our inbox.  The 2009 NYC Guide to Wining and Dining during the Recession.  But this wasn’t just any guide to recession dining, it’s the official guide going around the offices over at UBS Investment Bank! One of the rewards of working in a financial institution (at least for me) was the handy dandy .pdf files that were passed around every other month.  The “Official Summer Guides” or the “How to score a seat at Waverly Inn”, and the like.  It’s definitely looking bleak when the guides are focused on how to wine and dine that client of yours on a budget! Update: Eleanor and Kelli, the creators are NOT associated with UBS, though this did get distributed through the offices. For the entire document, click below….

We asked, PartyPants answered:

What do you do for a living??

[Ask PartyPants]

“In real life I am a sql dba/web developer/php dork. This is nice because I can do it from anywhere, leaving me ample time to drink, comment on blogs, and leave drunk voicemails.

Many of you regular readers may be familiar with our #1 commenter “partypants.”  The guy (or girl for all we know) spends more time on the site than Stanley does.  We have gotten a couple of questions in regards to the identity of partypants, but this question in tips today prompted an idea:

“PartyPants seems to have no life.  Can you ask him what he does on Saturday nights?”

SO…we did just that. And now, from this day forward you too can get in on the fun by participating in our “Ask PartyPants” column.  Ask him/her any question and we will forward along for an answer which we will post on the site.  Today’s answer, direct from PartyPants: More»

I love emails from readers!  Even if I’m not good at getting RIGHT back, they are the best, and anyone with a blog or site will *confirm this.  Below an exchange I feel post worthy from a reader I am making anonymous and his quest for a night out on the town.  Please tell him what he should have done if you think he missed something!

Hey Rachelle,

I really like your site, and was wondering if you could offer some advice. I have a friend coming in town tonight who is into checking out hot clubs/lounges/bars. He is from LA and wants to shmooze with the celebs here in nyc. I could really care less, but anywaaaay I was hoping you could tell me where to try and hit up tonight.

shanghai-tangToday, 8.8.08, besides being the start of the Olympic Games in Beijing is the LUCKIEST DAY of the year according to the Chinese. From yesterday:

Tomorrow morning, at 8:08 am, 8 ladies in Shanghai Tang’s signature scarlet silk Qi Pao dresses will pass out 888 red envelopes containing a lucky Chinese dollar on the corner of 57th and Madison Avenue. Those fortunate enough to snatch one up can keep the lucky buck, or bring it in to the Shanghai Tang boutique at 600 Madison Avenue to see if they’ve won an $888 shopping spree!

A faithful reader went to score up an envelope today and sent us this photo.  I’m sure they are all out of lucky envelopes by now, but I am anxious to see if she wins the spree!

izzy-93x125UPDATE: Izzy Gold is really Chris Young and he’s been up to some big things these days. We have been chronicling the story of Izzy Gold Records for quite some time now, and we are impressed with the message Izzy and is trying to get across to us. Along with his business partner Brad Leinhardt, Izzy Gold Records has been working to record music for hospitalized children with cancer from the Ronald Mcdonald House. From making it Rain $10,000.00 in times square to rocking out on their halloween day parade float with the Blue Oyster Cult and Andy Hilfiger singing “Dont Fear The Reaper” these guys have certainly been hustling. We hear that Izzy Gold Records is now producing and managing some of our favorite DJ’s in town and we heard some rumors that a documentary is now in the works slated to air on one of our favorite music tv channels. We are excited to see what Izzy, Brad, and Liam Mcmullan the label’s creative director, have up their sleeves next. Stay tuned…  More»

“In the beginning there were the Greeks who brought the wheel, then the Romans arrived with their togas, and finally Brigitte Bardot, who never wore much at all.”

This past weekend some of most famous and connected people of the international circuit arrived to party on Denise Rich’s yacht until the early morning hours. Her party included an exclusive group of people such Adnan Khashoggi, surfer Laird Hamilton, Jimmy Choo, Tamara Mellon, Star Jones, Joan Collins, Eric Wachtmeister, Valentino, Steve O, Marc Rich, Ron Burkle, The parents of Mike Heller and sister Rachel Heller, Warren Lichtenstein, and Thomas Kramer.

Today we recieved the following email:

I am a 35 year old woman from Paris.  I come to NYC several times a year and each time, I find myself disappointed with the choices available for dancing.  I do not LOVE the big night clubs, but no one even moves at places like Rose Bar and Socialista.  Am I missing out on something that the locals (Guest of a Guest) may know that I don’t?  Please help a woman in need of some boogie.

I am at a loss for words.  I am thankful that there are women out there in search of the ultimate friendly and classy dance arena.  So….anyone have any ideas for her????

A group of four women in their late 40s were walking down Seventh Avenue, when one tripped and fell in front of Chelsea Papaya on the corner of 23rd street and Seventh avenue. Her hands were full and she couldn’t put them out to break her fall. She hit her head on the sidewalk and began bleeding profusely. At least four concerned bystanders dialed 911 on their balkberries and iPhones.

From our inbox: A start to this Friday morning with a little Laliberte love. Kristian Laliberte changed his name on facebook (which is becoming the norm for “important” people these days it seems) to “Kris Bravo“. Judging from his wall conversations from last Friday at this time on Annabel Vartanian’s wall, Miss Emily Brill had yet to be asked to be on the reality show that is set to change our lives this fall. So….”essentially, Emily” really didn’t have any idea about this show up until this week, when she lost her bff Kris Bravo (love that name ha). Ah, the drama. We love a good cat fight. Teddy is Teddy Gieger, the actor, DR is of course, Devorah Rose, the editor in chief of Social Life Magazine. Without Emily by his side, who is Mr. Bravo going to stand in corners with?
