[The fruits of his labor. Andrew Cedotal's hard work has paid off today.] Never has a twitter userpic been more appropriate than Andrew Cedotal's today. Pretty sure that exact manic, self-satisfied expression of glee has been on his face all day, from the moment Mediaite launched and almost immediately started crashing due to server overloads. We can almost hear his mad laughter from here (their offices are down the street from us on Broome and Broadway). More»

Last night the American Society of Magazine Editors held their annual ceremony to hand out the National Magazine Awards at the Frederick P. Rose Hall at Lincoln Center. An admittedly shrinking crowd of editors, publishers, industry professionals and guests gathered to celebrate 26 winners across 20 categories, but could not have enjoyed host Jimmy Fallon's opening joke about his obsessive readership of.... a blog (Gawker). Rachel Sklar of Abrams Research and Charitini, has the scoop: More»

A note from your editor: Do you live in New York City and think you have a more interesting life than me? Well, you're probably right. Which is why I would like to hear more from you. Take these guys for example. Whether you see something you think is cool and deserves attention, or would like to try out writing on your own, help make my job easier and send me an email of things that you think deserve a post. Sometimes, even the most seemingly ridiculous Saturday pub crawls are the top posts of the day! Options for anonymity guaranteed. And, if you're itching for an internship focused on writing, email me to set up an interview!

Do you feel like you are constantly behind on the internet?  You just figured out how to use Facebook from the last relaunch, and now they are changing it up on you again?  You finally learned what re-tweeting meant, you are starting to understand the ins and outs of a tumblr dashboard, and you think you are pretty good about iPhone apps...but it NEVER.ENDS.

Trust us, we've all been there.  SO, a present for those of you who are in need of reminiscing on some simpler times.  The Gawker homepage from Feb. 6, 2003.  Click on the photo at the left to be redirected to the actual archived page and HAVE FUN! Then compare it to today's version.

Thanks Peter Feld! You just made our day!

In case you missed Spencer Morgan's satisfying piece for the Observer on David Webb, "Beautiful Banker Yields Interest: Life After Goldman Is A Catwalk," I suggest you give it a gander.  If only to get a chance to see how one goes about humanizing the men who are now, more than ever, lost in translation; or at least one of them. (HINT: they are so lost that they think hanging out with Neel Shah is hip, can you imagine)?!  My critique lies in the fact that we are supposed to believe it's RARE to have a young, good looking guy in finance playing up his "artsy-ness."  More»

Today is the official last day of work for many of our friends over at Page Six Magazine.  And, with that, I would like to toast their departures with a quote my sister sent me once when I was feeling pretty low:

"Writing is the only profession where no one considers you ridiculous if you earn no money." - Jules Renard

Though we will miss your witty contributions at Page Six mag, we are looking forward to the great things you will no doubt be doing, especially you Kelly and Gregory!

That's right, Mary Rambin is going for her second round of botox, and better.tv will be filming the procedure which airs HERE at 1:53 (set your alarms!)

In "My Body, My Botox", Mary explains why she is not ashamed of getting botox at the tender age of 26:

"I care about how I look, why is that shameful? More»

OMFG!  Teen Magazine is DUNZO!

Can you believe it?  This, along with "Seventeen" were like the BEST thing that happened to me each month as a Jr. High student.  WWD Media has just reported that their Winter '08 issue will be their last.  "We will continue to publish the annual Teen Prom issue but will focus our teen publishing efforts on the Seventeen brand." Teenmag.com will be absorbed into the Hearst Teen Network of sites.

Sad day in teenville.

New York MagazineNY Magazine just published their 4th Annual "Reasons to Love New York" issue and I have spent the better half of the morning reading it with a smile.  Because

"the payoffs from living in this city remain stratospherically high, regardless of what the Dow does on any given afternoon."

What else?

Well, some of my favorite reasons they listed include:

Media MeshingRichard Blakeley from Gawker is the king of hosting Media Parties in this city.  Tonight, his infamous Media Meshing will be the last one he throws.  This is just icing on the ever crumbling cake that is the Media Buiness these days.  Here's his description of the party:

"End of all media -- End of 2008 -- End of Media Meshing
No it's not a sign of the apocalypse, just an excuse to drink 'til it's fuzzy!

For media types, 2008 has been a year of major highs and major lows -- so it seems only appropriate for the 9th ever Media Meshing to take us out on top. More»
