After just two years, All Points West--the New York area's only halfway successful attempt at a summer music festival--is in jeopardy: unless things come together quickly, it's unlikely to return at all. Why can't a cultural powerhouse like NYC host the type of event Manchester, Tennessee handles without a hitch? More»
There's a nifty new website out there that lets you compare your city's musical taste to scores of others around the world. And then be a total snob about the results. New York LOVES Radiohead, Lady Gaga and, shamefully, Coldplay. And Munich, well, Munich doesn't like New York's taste in music one bit! More»
This weekend, the city flung open its doors to the public on Governors Island. Sunday evening was the moe. concert, a jam rock band that did a great job making everyone forget the strangely cold, bone-penetrating dampness that moved in on the breeze that night. As the name would imply, you can only reach the place by ferry. I got a spot up front and was greeted by something that looks like a Native American voodoo doll-hull ornament. As you can see, it's tar-black head has been baking in the East River sun longer than I've been alive. It was a great start to a fun evening. If you're interested in more Gov Island shows, you're in luck.
Is your music library a little flat? Check out IACmusic for some quality tunes that you can find nowhere else. IAC stands for “Independent Artists Company,” which makes them something of independents artists’ FUBU. But IAC isn’t just for them – it’s for everyone. Go to the site and either choose what you listen to by using an artist or genre search, or access one of the site’s 4,000+ music stations to enjoy an effortless stream. Admittedly, my online music-hunting hasn’t gone much further than Last.fm and Pandora; but I can say that I prefer IACmusic to both, if for no other reason than its breadth of artists and user controls.

Last night, Hiro was the setting for Paper Magazine's April Issue "Beautiful People" with singer Joanna Newsom as the cover girl. Joanna serenaded a packed crowd full of hundreds of "Beautiful" New Yorkers. In the article titled: "The Wood Nymph, The Harp, and The Wardrobe", Joanna gets candid about how she thinks she had "sabotaged the system" by "getting up in front of people and playing my harp and singing my weird fucking songs." There was no sabotaging going on last night as her talent quickly quieted the large crowd of inebriated party goers. Stay tuned for more pictures from the event in our gallery.

The L.A. Times has broken an exclusive on new evidence supporting the (widely acknowledged) claim that Sean Combs/P. Diddy was responsible for the murder of Tupac Shakur way back in 1994. Though no one's alleging Combs fired the fatal shot, the Times implicates Diddy and his "associates" for the beating and slaying that sent such a ripple through pop culture during the mid-nineties. Since that time, there has been no official police charge leveled at anyone involved. This article is the first account of newly-revealed information implicating Combs and relies on FBI documents, witness statements, and a confidential informant. More»
We didn't make it so good thing Rob Rich did:
Of course they were there...Kelly and Christie are officially THE Hampton-ladies of the year.
Here's some people we aren't used to seeing out east:

Renee Zellweger chopped off her hair and found a new boyfriend?
Adam Sandler's shows off his new "do":

Last weekend's concert of Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds at the Ross School was definitely the musical highlight of the Ross School's summer concert series. There has certainly been lots of talk about how the tickets for the concert series haven't been selling well, and some flap over ticket prices being reduced for those affiliated with Ross. Nevertheless, this was a packed house, and seeing these two guys jam out is always a treat. Their set list was well chosen incorporating classics like #41, Crash, Crush, Satellite, as well as some lesser known favorites:
So Damn Lucky, Old Dirt Hill, Crush, Stay or Leave, Grace is Gone, Save Me, Still Water, Don't Drink The Water, #27, Cornbread, Oh, Gravedigger, Loving Wings, Where Are You Going, Satellite, Lie In Our Graves, Stream, Kashmir, Stream, Sister, The Maker, Crash Into Me, #41, Dancing Nancies

Some Devil
Ants Marching
But we have to say Tim really stole the show (and generally does when he plays with Dave). Dave is certainly the creative genius, but Tim's command of the guitar is unbelieveable. The guy has serious chops, and adds great color to the songs. But sometimes it looks like the guitar is bigger than Tim himself! (Notice: Dave sitting is as tall as Tim standing).

This Saturday we attended the Prince Concert at the Ross school in East Hampton. It's part of the "Hampton Social Concert Series"
So is seeing Prince REALLY worth the cost of the tickets (10k)!?
well, apparently some people (Kelly and Mark Consuelos Ripa, David Blaine, Lauren Dyan, Christy Brinkley's clan, Jay Z, Kid Rock, Leonardo Dicaprio, Angelica Houston, Bon Jovi to name a few) think so....

By the way how cool does Jack Brinkley look? The kid is in his prime awkward stage and yet he pulls off looking remarkably charming even behind a brace-face:

Well it isn't exactly by the shore, rather situated off of the heavily-trafficed Montauk Highway (route 27), approximately 2 miles from the nearest beach...but we'll forgive the loose interpretation, and chaulk it up to Mike Satsky and Brian Gefner's want of assonance in the name.
In any event Social Life Magazine's party at Stereo By the Shore this weekend was definitely kickin' with a surprise performance from yours truly Lily Allen.
