Radar Magazine held its October issue release party on Wednesday night at Catch 22, with cover star Shannon Doherty! Actually, without her (she couldn’t make it, don’t know why), but everyone still had tons of fun! Guests like Michael Musto, photographer Ellen von Unwerth, and RADAR EIC Maer Roshan enjoyed the party, but we did miss Brenda!

Happy 40th Birthday New York Magazine! It’s always fun to reminisce over old magazine covers, remembering the day we were reading them as current news, not memories of our city’s past. Below some more of our favorite covers from over the years:
Ok, time for a little shameless self-promotion. As GofG readers know, in addition to our nightlife exploits, we also have a day gig. We own a photo agency called Artwing . We are a full service photo agency that specializes in fashion, advertising and celebrity. We recently began an exciting collaboration with the newly revamped Interview Magazine. In addition to a full page in the October issue of Interview, we are also co-hosting a masquerade party next month that promises to be one of the best parties of the season. Keep reading here for more details and pick up your October Interview Magazine with James Franco on the cover. Special thanks to Glenn O’Brien, Fabien Baron and especially Susan Kilkenny for making this happen.
There has been lots of talk around town and “The Internets” about what the financial implosion on Wall Street means for life in the city. More specifically, we’ve opined on the uber important issue of a possible end to high-priced bottle service in New York nightclubs, Gawker has followed suit predicting that the end may be nigh for a $450 dollar bottle of Ketel One, and the WSJ has written about other allied industries” fears. But few in the NYC webosphere have predicted when we might actually hit bottom, or rather how we will know when we’ve hit it.
Enter Lockhart Steele. The man, the myth, the founder of the Curbed network, and one of the most powerful people in NY real estate. So what does he have to say about high-priced bottles? Nothing, he isn’t your typical character in clubland. If you want to find him you’re better off pulling out your nerd-o-meter and zeroing in on the nearest media party, or maybe even a blogfest he is putting on. But what does he say about hitting the bottom?
“You will know when we have hit the bottom of this financial crisis the very day when Radar Magazine goes out of business. And you can quote me on that!”
Yesterday, while scanning the Post, we came across this little number:”Bubbly Kick” in Richard Johnson’s popular “Page Six” section. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love Richy Boy as much as the next guy, but this is a perfect example of how old media is behind the curve. We wrote about British billionaire Mike Ashley’s rocking night at Pink Elephant SIX days ago! And that still was after the Sun Online had posted it. Is Richard Johnson going to join his fellow Mesozoic friends in extinction soon? Or does he have it in him to start following the blogosphere?

Modern Luxury Media launched their newest publication “Manhattan Magazine” on Tuesday night amongst the tents at Bryant Park’s Cellar Bar. This brand spanking new magazine caters to the interests and lifestyle of New York’s finest and the September/October fashion and design special devotes over 100 pages to “uptown chic and downtown hip”…sounds like perfection, though hasn’t this been done before?
These days, it is increasingly obvious that the only ones wacky enough to launch a print publication based around socialites in Manhattan, or any other area for that matter, must be ego-driven because, otherwise, it. just. don’t. make. sense. Back in June, the Post stated that:
“A new battle for New York is underway, as the well-financed Modern Luxury operation invades the city with a new magazine, to be called Manhattan. Richard Martin, who is currently the editor of Modern Luxury’s recently launched Miami magazine, will be heading to New York to be the editor of Manhattan….The launch of Manhattan means that Modern Luxury’s battle against Jason Binn, CEO of Niche Media, is going to intensify.”
“A new battle for New York”? What was the old one? Social Life versus Gotham?
Yesterday, it was my turn to meet the Page Six Magazine team for a photo shoot at the ever popular Angels & Kings. Our “tribe” consisted of Liam McMullan, Shaggy, Myself, and…Izzy Gold, (who when asked just what he was trying to do told me “I just want to give people something to believe in.” Who can argue with that?) The highlight of the day was getting my hair and makeup done. I always marvel at the hair and makeup artists, each one perfecting his/her craft along the way.
Quest Magazine came out with their Quest 400 list this issue. Originally the “400″ represented the number of guests Mrs. Astor could fit into her ballroom, today it is a list of the names of the people who are the most influential to our society. Except this year it contains over 1,300 names-as the magazine made sure to include all of its advertisers. [City File]

While I lived in Paris, Gawker’s urbane travel site Gridskipper was my bible, a somewhat snarky, vastly knowledgeable guide to all things unFrommered. When I left, my brain was crammed not with french, but with the French, and where they allez-y-ed for the most tolerable free bar meals, scenic public sexcapades, sludgiest chocolat chaud… tidbits that I’d eagerly pass on to future expats. When I came back to New York, Gridskipper again rose to the occasion, though I relied on it less.
Our good friend, Holly GoNightly over at BlackBook Magazine has just done a piece on their website titled “Hamptons Undercover”. She interviewed Marketing Guru, Susan Shin; Internet guru Tatiana Platt; and…me. I was the novice. Obvi. But I was still honored to be included and am, like her, excited for the Hamptons Undercover (the new exclusive website) party tonight.
Go HERE for the full interview.
Mark Seliger photographed Hollywood’s newest hot young things—Gossip Girls, Jonas Brothers, and Apatow apostles—for Vanity Fair’s August Issue.
So, who made the cover of the Next Wave?
Amanda Seyfried, Emma Roberts, Blake Lively, and Kristen Stewart.
One of our great American traditions, aside from self-imposed Slurpee headaches, is prom. Just the whisper of taffeta brushing against a fresh pair of Dyeables gets high school students in the mindset for the most anti-climactic yet quintessential teenage experience. Now, the Wall Street Journal reports that the Brits want a piece of the punch-drenched action. Derided as a “ghastly import” to England’s shores, the arrival of American prom is attributed to shows like the O.C. and American Pie, which would mean that our entertainment exports aren’t released in Europe until a good five years have past because they’re both laughably beyond relevance at this point.
Looks like they’ve moved on to Cribs for their social cues:
