Free Fashion Advice From Strangers

Apparently there were some ladies handing out “Free Fashion Advice” in Union Square the other day.  Is this just another reality TV show? (notice the mic guy).  Which brings up two questions - One: Would YOU take fashion advice from strangers? (they are wearing awesomely 80s Ray Bans!), and Two: Has anyone else noticed the INSANE amounts of reality television being filmed in our city?  I see people walking around with amateur video guys following them almost daily.  EVERYONE seems to think their lives in Manhattan are worthy of documenting.  Can you imagine what it would be like to be the guy fielding all of these demos over at ABC or Bravo?  I would love to see just a sampling of the footage.

UPDATE: Find these ladies here.  They are apparently stylists who were caught in the crossfire of an unrelated documentary being filmed in Manhattan.  And yes, we would take advice from them!

Shoe Fetishists Rejoice!

[If the shoe fits... photo by JOHN NORWOOD]

Got a special Jones for high heels? Is your 1964, 45 RPM single, “Kinky Boots”, sung by Patrick Macnee and Honor Blackmun from the iconic 60’s TV series, “The Avengers”, getting worn out? Get the shakes because you can’t stand to be away from your special collection of stilettos when you leave home?  Really, how many times can you stay at home to re-play the scene in the “La Douleur Exquise!” episode of “Sex in the City” where the shoe salesman climaxes while assisting Charlotte York with her sixth pair of the day?

Now, imagine that you are free to go out without any separation anxiety. Plus, imagine cocooning your entire body inside the object of your desire while you go anywhere you want. You are free at last!

Must Have Fall Item: Patagonia Big Label Redux

My Patagonia fleece is one of the staples of my fall wardrobe.  However I, unfairly have never been a big fan of guys wearing the Patagonia fleece…its too much Frat Boy for me to handle.  However the new/old colorful Synchilla styles being released (or rather “re” released) by Urban Outfitters I might be able to handle on Mr. Right.

Everything You Need To Know: How To Wear Tights

[Jessica Schroeder on her way to meet me yesterday]

What first struck me when meeting style hound and blog writer Jessica Schroeder yesterday were her fantastic purple tights.  Tights are in fact, a prominent staple in her life.  Today, she shares with us the rules of buying and wearing tights:

WHATIWORE GUIDE: TIGHTS By Jessica Schroeder:
A simple way to take a so-so outfit to wow is by putting on a pair of opaque colored tights. I recommend going with a nylon/lyrca blend with at least 80 denier (thickness).

I remember the first time I wore a bright pair of tights to work. When you’re donning bright fuchsia, you’re going to bring attention to your stems.  After a few compliments, I relaxed and expanded my wide color selection.

Here’s a few ideas on how you can ease your way into colorful legs this fall:

Tiffany Koury and Comme Il Faut, A Perfect Pair!

Go HERE for more photos from this event by Ben Kaufman

Luxury dress designer Tiffany Koury teamed up with Julia Schiptsova (representing Comme iL Faut) to host a two day sample sale and trunk show in NYC last week. The partnership proved to be a success as their brands match perfectly! The Argentine shoe line is as feminine as Tiffany’s dresses, but so comfortable - they are cushioned for Tango dancing! Everyone that attended went home with several dresses with shoes to match and the intention to be long trem customers. The two designers will also begin to meet with private clients together because the pairing was so well received.

Lauren Conrad And Lindsay Lohan Set To Singlehandedly Revive Our Economy, One Legging At A Time

lindsay\'s leggings“We suppose that after the success of Lindsay Lohan’s leggings line this shouldn’t be such a surprise, but Lauren Conrad’s collection is selling so fast it might singlehandedly revive the economy. “ [Racked]

Lauren Conrad seems to be following Lindsay’s lead. Lindsay Lohan’s Leggings came complete with absurd knee pads and sold off the shelves in record time.  This even during the hottest summer months, when leggings aren’t exactly in season.  We hear that people are still on waiting lists to buy these puppies.

This is like the modern day war effort.  Except instead of pantyhose for parachutes (WWII), it’s leggings and overpriced cotton wrap dresses.
