Ron Burkle Checks In To The Bowery Hotel
These days its seems like everyone and their brother is coming to the Bowery. Heck we’re even there! But it’s not a party until Ron Burkle shows up on the scene! So much excitement hasn’t hit a Hotel since Dunston checks in.
A tipster informs us that this Clintonite, Sean John investor, and jet-setter extraordinaire has taken out one of two penthouse lofts in the Bowery Hotel for a cool $30k per month ($10k lower than the initial offer price). More »
Plaza Lawsuit Begs The Long Asked Question: “Why Would Anyone Want To Live There?”
[Juxtaposing an empty reality (left) with photo-shopped images (middle, right) from theplazaresidences.com. Click image for fullsize]
This morning curbed wrote about the recent lawsuit Andre Vavilov filed against El-Ad, owners of the Plaza for among other things “lower than represented ceiling heights,” and “unappealing drainage grates” in the two penthouses he was set to buy for $53.5 million dollars (unseen). Vavilov is trying to recover his $10 million dollar deposit. But what are the REAL reasons why he doesn’t want to be hanging out with Eloise in the City? A couple of possible culprits:
1. Solitary Confinement - There is no one there! (See photos above). We did a piece on this a few months back, describing how living in this spot is solitary confinement for the nouveau riche. Since Vavilov never saw the place, could he have been misled by the pretty photo shopped images on the plaza’s website?
2. The Rose Club- again, no one’s there! Well actually there are some people there if you count model
wranglers, promoters, and F-list “models” who won’t be anywhere near Bryant Park this week. But do you really want to be bumping into these folk as you go up to your penthouse. Nah, didn’t think so.

Bastille Day Celebrations In Easthampton

Happy Bastille Day! Today is the French holiday celebrating the 1790 Fête de la Fédération, held on the first anniversary of the storming of the Bastille on July 14, 1789. The anniversary of the storming of the Bastille was seen as a symbol of the uprising of the modern French nation, and of the reconciliation of all the French inside the constitutional monarchy which preceded the First Republic, during the French Revolution. This Saturday, French entusiasts in the Hamptons helped ST-Germain celebrate Bastille Day at Kobe Beach Club in Easthampton.

The Standard Hotel: View From The Inside Out

“We are tingling already with excitement.” -Hotel Chatter
“A luxury hotel growing beneath, above, and around the rail line, as an oak tree envelopes and old fence.” -The New Yorker
“Raising the standard.” -New York Mag
“The King Standard.” -Daily News
They’ve already taken on Hollywood, L.A., and Miami Beach, and awhile back The Standard Hotel group decided that it was time they did Manhattan. There has been tons of chatter about the new hotel that is “coming soonish” above Richard Hammond’s Highline on Washington street (between w12th and 13th st). While their website has a real time picture of the progress of the exterior part of the hotel (updated every 15 minutes), we got some current sneak peak pictures of the space from the inside out:
Gansevoort South To Hit South Beach
Just when you thought that South Florida couldn’t be more like New York (save for the weather, the flora, and the Cuban Diaspora), UrbanDaddy reports that the Hotel Gansevoort is opening up shop in Miami Beach. Whew! In recent years, Hotel Gansevoort has taken a sharp turn down a San Franciscan street, despite Garden of Ono’s best efforts. Suffice it to say, the corporation could use a refresher. Not to mention, the Delano could use some competition down in sunny Florida, and Gansevoort is just the establishment to bring the noise.
Creatively named “Gansevoort South“, the Florida outpost features the same brand of modernist décor, albeit with a brighter palate. Rooftop amenities are also available; however, cabanas are present only at Gansevoort South (the Gansevoort New York offers cabanas in Ono, but they are neither rooftop, nor poolside). The on-premises shopping and cuisine also invokes the New York scene, featuring Big Apple favorites such as STK and Big Drop. Opening Monday at 2377 Collins Avenue, Gansevoort South is located roughly one-half mile from Lincoln Road, the heart and soul of South Beach.
