The New York Times Real Estate section deserves some credit. Every Sunday for the past year its feature story has admirably tried to put a fresh spin on the same bottom line: we’re screwed. But this week’s story on the decline of bachelor pads delivered another form of bad news, especially for the city’s single ladies. If the article’s subjects are indicative of New York’s single men, NYC’s bachelors are going nowhere fast… More»
Last night, the Yankees took their first World Series title in 9 years after beating the Philadelphia Phillies 7-3. Now, while Philadelphians curse NYC for the next six months, us New Yorkers can get back to reveling in our superiority and ignoring lesser cities. Or we can take pity on the land of cream cheese and throw them bone without suffering the Turnpike. More»
After nearly a decade, the World Series Crown is back in New York City. Petite and Rivera pitched great games, Matsui killed it (so I’m told?), and the title is ours. Even for those of us who don’t care that much about baseball (*cough cough*) have to be a little excited to see our city win. Be sure to read our earlier coverage HERE, and if you’re a Phillies Fan, be sure to check back later for our Philly in NYC post…
Everyone loves to hate douchebags. This handy guide on the left of d-bags by region in the U.S. gave us the motivation to create our own guide of d-bags by region in NYC. New Yorkers, in particular, get off on mocking tourists, weekend warriors and other interlopers too uncool to pass for legit city folk. But those who live in glass condos shouldn’t throw stones.

The big story in tomorrow’s city elections is the David and Goliath non-battle between Mike Bloomberg and Bill Thompson. But nightlife lovers invested in New York’s nocturnal future should pay attention to a host of names on the bottom half of the ballot for candidates endorsed by the good folks of the Nightlife Preservation Committee… More»

There were two groups of New Yorkers this weekend: those of you that wandered the streets of NYC late into the night on Saturday to celebrate Halloween, and those of you that chose the healthier option of running its streets on Sunday for the NYC Marathon. Both took a considerable amount of bravery… More»
We know that marathons take their name and sole-crushing length from the dubious tale of a Greek messenger who promptly croaked after running 26.2 miles from the Battle of Marathon to Athens. If runners in this Sunday’s New York City Marathon have nothing more than a finish line collapse to look forward to, they might as well ditch the noble “fitness” thing in honor of some Big City sinning with the following pit stops along the grueling route: More»

Who says ex co-workers can’t stay friends? Last night, former Valentino president and VBH founder V. Bruce Hoeksema along with the lovely Gwyneth Paltrow hosted a cocktail party for “Valentino: The Last Emperor” and the movie’s namesake star.

Only in New York folks. Check out the site this morning at Charlotte Ronson’s gym. A day in the life of a true Manhattan dog starts with a proper workout. Stanley prefers Equinox in Soho for his exercise. It’s a perfect place to meet the neighborhood bitches. If you think the site at left is crazy, this doesn’t even touch the tip of the iceberg of craziness that dog lovers will go to in this city for their pooches.
NYC is home to a multitude of Dive Bars, so many, in fact, that, despite my best efforts, I have been unable to asssail them all, lo though I have tried. What is a Dive Bar? The dive bar is a place to drink to forget or to drink to remember, but ultimately to drink and not much else. They’re better when dark and seedy and cheap. They’re not ideal, or even good, place to meet new people or take first dates, but they are excellent locales to go out drinking with friends. Here, then, are six bars you can mosey into to lose yourself: More»
One of the best parts of watching Mad Men (besides the expertly crafted plot and character development) is the perfectly recreated world of 1960s New York. Who doesn’t wish they could simply step into their tvs for a moment and experience the romance of sipping a cocktail in an elegant 60s bar? We’ve put together a list of Mad Men inspired locales, consisting of places that have been here since the 1960s as well as their modern counterparts. Here’s everything you need to know to dress, drink, eat, and live like a character out of Mad Men. (Don Draper not included.) More»
