Socialites

One of our favorite socialites, Lydia Hearst took her baby blue bicycle out for a spin this weekend. What’s with the balloons? No she wasn’t just getting back from the street fairs, Lydia was smack in the middle of a photo shoot, presumably for her new movie, “The Last International Playboy” set to open in theaters on June 12th. There has been a ton of hype about the movie (have you spotted a “Lydia-bus” yet?), mainly due to the fact that the opening scene has Hearst, 24, stripping, and getting cozy with a guy and a girl, played by Australian supermodel Nicole Trunfio, in the laundry room during a model-saturated soiree in a NYC apartment.

While the civil and criminal lawsuits alleging fraud and negligence are starting to trickle in for the Fairfield Greenwich Group (FGG), the legal jury is still out as to how culpable they are in regards to the $7.5 billion dollars the group lost with Bernard Maddoff. But for FGG co-founder Walter Noel and his jet setting socialite clan of daughters (Marisa Noel Brown, etc.) and son-in-law salesmen (Andres Piedrahita, Philip Toub, etc.), the “social” jury is in, and it is a resounding guilty as charged. In April, many “friends” anonymously took snipes at them in the Vanity Fair article Greenwich Mean Time. Now the Round Hill Club of Greenwich, CT has asked them not to return (aka revoked their membership). A tipster notes:
The Round Hill Club recently revoked the Noel family membership. After all of the heat they have drawn and the publicity nightmare, it looks like they [the club members] have had enough…

Were you lining up to work for Adrien Field after reading the Gawker piece about his “Intern Hunt” with partner Alexandra Alexis? Devastated by his denial of the item? No problem! While I do not have a web show (which actually seems kind of cute) I also have a novel that one day I might, maybe, get around to attempting to publish. However, as my intern, it won’t all be sitting around and watching The City and gauging the philosophical implications of the latest TMI update. No, there’s going to be work involved. For instance:

This week’s Fame Game featured “Mover and Shaker” is Genevieve Jones, the well-known model-socialite who also has a budding career as a jewelry designer. She rose 3.2% in both Fame Game’s “Society” and “Arts” categories this week, coming in first place ahead of society regular Chuck Attix and hippie socialite Byrdie Bell. Originally from Baton Rouge, Miss Jones first appeared on the Manhattan scene as a mysterious super-skinny social climber who dated Trent Reznor and lied about her age (just a little), and then faded somewhat from the spotlight. Adrien Field and Alexandra Alexis have a new site and a new “webshow,” Almost Arrived, and people are taking notice. We’ve been patiently waiting for Gawker to jump all over these two, and this weekend, after they came across an ad in Craigslist for an intern for their new venture, they finally did. Adrien swears it is a fake ad, and we have more than one “tip” claiming it was actually frenemy Kristian Laliberte who planted the ad as a prank. Confused? More »

Every species has it’s own way of making themselves look desirable. And, while peacocks’ extravagant display of self assertiveness is beautiful, the NYC socialite/microcelebrities may be our favorite of specimens to analyze. Has anyone ever stood in a mirror and mimicked some of the poses that socialites like Tinsley Mortimer and microcelebrities like Julia Allison bestow upon the shutterbugs? Try it, and then quickly write down all of the feelings that come to you. A few of them might be, I feel really weird and awkward,” “wouldn’t a casual pose be better?,” “who started this trend?,” but most importantly “what message exactly am I trying to convey with this pose?”

You know that we are deeply set in a recession when our own favorite top tier gay socialites have to start stealing to make ends meet. It seems that Paul Johnson-Calderon (Paper Magazine writer and Peter Davis’ ex-beau) had a little case of the Recession Blues on Wednesday night at The Eldridge when he decided to leave with a young lady’s purse (not his own). Our tip line has been bursting at the seams all day, but we were going to give PJC the benefit of the doubt and wait to get the facts straight. Then we got some hard core proof (see security camera shot at left) and decided to post (alas, we do have a job to do) . We’ve gotten several tips that even BFF Jules Kirby has also been claiming that PJC stole her blackberry weeks ago. It’s a sad day in GofG land indeed. Yes the drinks are pricey, and times are tough, (those bowties cost money you know), but socialites shouldn’t be filching purses…right? A tipster writes: More »

…that just doesn’t seem right. No it’s not her appearance. For a lady in her later thirties, she looks great! Rather it’s how much her said appearance and lifestyle cost that doesn’t seem all that grand. Davis-Douglas apparently needs $53k a week to sustain herself, and is seeking mucho dinero from her former hubby United Technologies CEO George Davis. Granted, she is obviously padding her requests for compensation rather than low-balling, but it still seems a bit silly. Accounts of each other’s positions can be found here, and what she is seeking as well as more photos can be found below: More »
February 2nd, 2009 ended up being the day of baby booming! There are two new sets of parents on the social scene—get ready New YorK!
Designer Minnie Mortimer and Hollywood hotshot Stephen Gaghan finally had their big day…well, their second! The couple gave birth to an adorable baby girl at 6 pounds, 14 ounces at 19.5 inches. The bicoastal baby was surrounded by some very loved ones, and uncle (and Paper Magazine Editor-at-Large) Peter Davis can definitely be counted in the mix. Peter was elated by the arrival of his niece, making the big announcement via his Facebook status. More »
