Uncle Stevie Joins Twitter–Has Mild Freak Out Session

“HELP! What is going on? I don’t want to give them my phone. Is this okay? Where do these Twitters go? How do I find them on my phone? How do people even know where to find these!?” -@unclesteviebb

I just got off a long Twitter phone tutorial with Steve Lewis. The famous nightlife king, and BlackBook writer has joined Twitter and is FUHREAKING.OUT.  After calming him down (this is how you felt the first day on Facebook remember-now you love it), and asking him to provide some specific reasons for why in the world he is using a treo phone (!), we got him started.  More »

Steve Lewis On The Prowl, Set To Find New Girlfriend…

Dreams really can come true.  Today, we hear word that Blackbook will be helping their number one writer, (and our good friend), Steve Lewis find a new girlfriend (because his spinning session at Southside last night was obviously a dead end in the girl department). Do you think you have what it takes to make Uncle Stevie happy?

“Details are still being hammered out, but from a pool of interested applicants, a group of the most eligible nominees will be selected by an impartial jury of peers (i.e. the ladies of BlackBook who have decreed that I need their guidance). Finalists will then be treated to a variety of “dates”—

Happy Birthday To NYC Nightlife Godfather, Steve Lewis, Party Tonight At Greenhouse!

Today is a BIG day for Birthdays!  Celebrating alongside DJ Nick Cohen is our favorite Uncle Steve.  The source of decades of our city’s nightlife parties, clubs, gossip, and events, the “Godfather” will be celebrating at Greenhouse tonight.

And, in honor of his birthday, the man himself has written a post on being an old man, and the ten reasons he dates younger women!

While we don’t exactly approve of his love life, e will obviously be there tonight to toast all things Steve!

Dawn Spinner Davis In The Better (Economic) Times

[Dawn Spinner Davis, Steve Lewis, and myself back in 2004]

When I first transplanted into the city in 2004 from Nebraska, the first person I met was Uncle Steve Lewis, and the second was Dawn Spinner Davis.  I was of course known as “Omaha”, and we….err she has recently has been making headlines in the NYTimes and the blogosphere as a member of Dating a Banker Anonymous (DABA).  She is, according to Gawker: the “Sad Symbol of Our Times

I can’t attest to that, I know Dawn as a very sweet girl, I was friends with her mainly because she was the OPPOSITE of the kind of person that these publications are portraying her as.  I for one know first hand about the ways journalists may spin what you say to fit a story they are trying to create, and I’m sure this happens to be the case for Dawn, who is waiting for this whole thing to just blow over.  As for her marriage?  They still look and seem to be the perfect pair….. Steve Lewis Never Turns A Back On His Friends

Looks like there is some disconnect over at BlackBook. Everyone was excited for our favorite Uncle Steve’s move over to the big magazine when they bought his “Goodnight Mr. Lewis Column” from Joonbug. There were parties and celebrations. Steve’s taken a little bit of a much needed and deserved vacation from work, and while he’s away we noticed something that editorially didn’t match up.  In Steve’s end of the year post on the “Best New York Nightlife Of 2008” (where he kindly named us for best site), he included Circle, the Korean joint in Midtown as one of his best clubs.  Blackbook’s review of Circle is far from kind, and Steve, even at the expense of his job, sticks up for his own……

Steve Lewis Meets Lydia Hearst At BlackBook

Steve Lewis, Lydia Hearst
[Lydia Hearst finally meets Steve Lewis.  Photo via BlackBook]

So I’ve missed more than a couple of things.  Here’s another: two of our favorites (Steve Lewis and Lydia Hearst) finally meet (yes, they did host that Thanksgiving bowling party together at Lucky Strike, but anyone that’s played host knows how hard it is to meet and greet everyone).  So, want to know what was exchanged?  Check out GoodNightMrLewis for the scoop…and expect some good things in store after my absence, because even Guests need breaks.

Talking To Steve Lewis About His Webster Hall Redesign

Go HERE for more photos of this event by Gina Sachi Cody.

Last Saturday, Steve Lewis helped ring in the NEW Webster Hall, complete with a make over by the superstar himself.  I sat down with him to ask him how the night went.  Here is a bit of what he told me:

“It was as I expected. A real old school nightclub experience with tons of stuff happening in different rooms.  Cassidy rocked in the Marlin Room and Kaskade was amazing on the main.  The Euro party on the balcony was really well received.  People stayed and seemed to enjoy themselves.  I think it’s going to be what my design intended, a funky let your hair down old school club with great DJ’s”

Steve is not done with construction yet and said he’s curious to see how Saturday goes this week with Mark Ronson. “It’s 40,000 square feel and as usual no matter how long you have there’s still paint drying.”

“I Should Have Popped Him. Oh Well, Maybe Next Time.”

Steve LewisThis quote of the day, made by my favorite Uncle Steve Lewis in his Blackbook post on the Paper Magazine nightlife awards in regards to Frank Owen, author of Clubland and notorious Heineken lover.  Frank was apparently desperate enough for press that he decided to threaten to sue Steve over this comment and wound up on in today’s Post.  The funniest thing about Frank’s silly threat to Steve isn’t that Frank is double Steve’s size and half his age, it’s the awesome debate that is going on live between the two right now over at Blackbook. Click below for Frank’s silly threat:  TEAM STEVE!

Steve Lewis Talks About Visiting Michael Alig In Prison, And How Working At Blackbook Magazine Is Like “Playing At Yankee Stadium.”

“Don’t you think it’s funny that some people spend their whole lives trying to become writers and then you just show up one day and get a column for Blackbook Magazine?” -Steve Lewis’ girlfriend to him

Steve Lewis may be obnoxious and crass at times, but he’s also charming and sweet.  Enough so to scoop up a lady that is not only an attractive young bombshell, but intelligent to boot. He’s been a successful club manager for decades, and has designed spaces that will go down in history.  Then he decided he would reinvent himself and try being a computer geek for a bit.  It’s hard to imagine what our city’s blogosphere would be like without uncle Steve relaying his secrets for us, a job he undertook only 7 months ago, and one that brought him back into my life.  Today, Steve has turned over yet another new leaf: he has left Joonbug and moved to Blackbook Magazine, where he will debut with a post that will have everyone talking.  Steve, ever faithful, and always good to his word, called me up today to give me the first scoop.  I answered from the Omaha airport, a most fitting setting for the town he derives my nickname from.

Me: “Why now?  Why are you leaving Joonbug at this point in time and was the decision a hard one?”
SL: It was definitely a hard decision. I have always respected and supported the guys at Joonbug and will continue doing so. I’m good friends with Jon (Jon Gabel bought the publication this summer), and plan on helping them on projects such as New Years Eve. But it’s not every day that you get asked to be part of an organization like Blackbook Magazine. I think I got as far as I could at Joonbug, I took it as far as I could go and now I’m ready for the next level, a new opportunity. It’s like playing at Yankee Stadium for me…

Daily Style Phile: Steve Lewis, King Nightlife Blogger, On To Bigger And Better

Steve Lewis

Steve Lewis started “Good Night Mr. Lewis” and at once turned Joonbug into an actually relevant site.  It was only a matter of time until the big boys would catch on to Steve’s potential. The day has come for Steve Lewis to move on.  He’s in his 50s and looking great. He has a hot girlfriend, and a smoking blog. And, word on the street is he is heading over to Blackbook.  This is a developing story, and one on which we are promised a full scoop on….in the meantime, I would like to celebrate the no-fuss style that embodies Steve Lewis.
