Just because Asia Ragland lives in L.A. these days doesn’t mean she’s out of touch with the New York scene. Before launching her own line—she made an amazing gold-and-navy ring just for Of a Kind this week—she worked at 3.1 Phillip Lim, and she gets back to the right coast whenever she can. “When I make my bi-annual visits, there are—without a doubt—400 new spots to check out,” she says. “But there a few places I cannot leave the city without paying a visit to.” These are her spots. The nine month Volvo Ocean Race is back, and seafarers have been braving the waters in the hopes of taking home this year's first place title. To document the monstrous voyage, Puma chose ten bloggers and Instagram users to come along and post updates using the tag #marmostro. Check out some of our favorite photos from the race so far...

Although Laura Lombardi hails from New York, she traded in the apple for some wind in 2008—a move motivated by a desire to continue art school in Chicago, but that instead led to the creation of her eponymous line of vintage-fueled metal jewelry in 2009. (She made an amazing pair of brass earrings just for Of a Kind this week!) Here are the seven Manhattanite-approved spots that, according to Laura, you have to hit next time you make your way to the capital of the Midwest. More»

In perhaps one of the most moving tributes to the late North Korean fashion forward strongman, a tumblr has been erected commemorating Jong's love for dropping bombs (no, not the nuclear kind).  A far cry from the ubiquitous images of Jong staring blankly at various Korean goods, we give you a behind the scenes look at Kim finding love in a hopeless place...

Summer's almost over. But just because the air will be getting brisk soon doesn't mean we can't imagine future additions to New York's summertime scene. Especially when they're as cool as the proposed floating pool in the shadow of the Brooklyn Bridge. More»

Geocities may not be the go-to for bitchin' websites anymore, but its legacy will never die, especially not if Wonder-Tonic's Geocities-ize has its way. "Make any webpage look like it was made by a 13-year-old in 1996!" boasts the site, which will tart up any URL you choose. More»

colt 45Go HERE for more photos from this event by Sarah Jaffe.

Last week I attended a free show hosted by VICE Magazine and Colt 45 at King King in Hollywood. This launched VICE's Tales of Colt 45 and Cheeseburger tour who performed along with Mezzanine Owls, The Muslims, and Spider Problem. Not only was there free beer, great bands, and some sick mixes from DJ C-Town, but also a photos taken by Shadowscene infront of a set made to looklike someone (or something) had just ripped through a wall. The tour then made its way to Atlanta, Chigago, Philadelphia, and NYC.

Vice magazineOK OK. I'll admit to the douchbagery of it all. I kinda like, ok ok, I really like Vice Magazine. I like the way the authors shit on things from people, to music, to ideas, to themselves. I like all the scantily clad American Apparel ads on the viceland.com site, and I like the way that when Vice champions an artist (be them musical or otherwise), they do their best to blow them up, give them a little well needed and well placed publicity in the form of, say of video documentary of them practicing in their space or something like that.

Picnic, NYC parksYesterday, we told you to get back to the garden; today we'd like to add "and eat." When we were eight and visiting our grandparents' cattle farm, our favorite thing to do was pack a lunch in a bandana, tie it to a stick, and take our feast to the fields, the way we imagined shepherdesses of yore would do. We're not sure whether it was the backstory or the location, but we've yet to crunch a better Dorito. Below, our recommendations for picnicking, and where to fill your basket along the way.

[Photo via Excelsior 1968 by Robot Johnny]

Gawker actually LIKES something?! Well we just HAD to check this out. What caused the #1 authority on all things snarky to succomb to an actual SIMPLE positive approval post? Leave it to Robot Johnny who spent the time to dig out his mom's old high school yearbook from 1968 and redraw her classmates as cartoons. It is some pretty silly fun...I hope someone from my high school class decides to do a copy cat on.
