Last night at the Princess Grace Awards at Cipriani 42nd St., Ashanti had a few insightful words for Lil Wayne, who was release from prison last week.
Weezy had served his sentence for attempted criminal possession of a weapon on Rikers Island, but Ashanti discussed the importance of artistic perseverance in spite of such charges.
"As a performer, you do what's in your heart," she said. "You perform your music, you have a passion for it, so whatever it is that's going on with your personal life, if you love what you do, it's gonna shine."
She yelped a warm greeting for the rapper's return to normal life.
"I'm glad Weezy's out," she said. "Welcome home Weezy!"
