The Queen Is Back: Madonna's Most Controversial Moments

1 of 7

Like A Prayer

Because nothing says "I'm the Queen" quite like burning a bunch of crosses, getting dropped by your sponsor for it, and still winning the VMA. In March of 1989, Madonna pissed off the entire Christian community with her controversial video for her single, "Like A Prayer," as she roamed in and out of churches and fields of burning crosses wearing tiny outfits. Pepsi was supposed to be her sponsor for her tour but they dropped her after the uproar. However, Madge still won an MTV Video Music Award for Viewer's Choice which ironically happened to be sponsored by Pepsi that year. Aware of this, Madonna came on stage and announced: "I would really like to thank Pepsi for causing so much controversy."
