Daily Style Phile: Amanda Brooks

Author of fashion tome I Love Your Style, consultant for Vogue and The New York Times, and former muse and creative director of brand Tuleh, Amanda Brooks knows style. She's sitting in the front row of fashion shows, hobnobbing with the industry's best, and in her downtime, making appearances in the NY social scene.

Her background's an interesting mixture of uptown class and no-frills Connecticut tradition. A product of Horace Mann, Deerfield Academy and Brown, she spent most of her childhood clad in Ralph Lauren cable knits, brightly printed Lily dresses, and color coordinated ribbon belts.  However, her career in fashion catapulted her into the arms of the fashion world, and today, she counts scores of designers and industry insiders as friends (Anh Duong, Lauren Santo Domingo, even La Anna Wintour). Her sartorial choices reflect her fusion of uptown class and urban edge, and has her looking impeccable 24-7. She's one of those lucky few who can rock leather pants and J.Crew, with no semblance of trying too hard.

Brooks knows how to play up the drama for splashy events, showing off her patrician blond looks and and seemingly endless gams. She's a style chameleon, indiscriminate to hems and color. One minute it's netural sequins, and the next, a gem-toned gown. She's keen on accessories, keeping an ensemble interesting with an unexpected pop of color or texture.

She's a fixture on the NY social/style scene (30 pages on PMC!), and in addition to playing fashion's darling, she's also mother to two kids with her British painter husband Christopher Brooks. However, she hasn't led motherhood cramp her style, and you'll never see her in a tragic L.L Bean get-up and clogs. She picks up the kids from school clad in furs and sky high heels...
