Bio

Before he was a weed smoking lyricist rocking gold fronts, decked out in a Comme des Garcons hat and Jeremy Scott sneakers, he was Rakim Mayers. Born on October 3, 1987 to Somali and African American parents in Harlem, NY, it's evident that A$AP Rocky was destined to be a star being consciously named after American rapper Rakim, one half of the hip hop duo Eric B. & Rakim. He started rapping at the age of 8, and cites his musical influences as: The Diplomats, Three 6 Mafia, UGK, Mobb Deep, Wu-Tang Clan, Andre 3000, Kanye West, Wiz Khalifa and Drake to name a few.
