“Churches and Cocktails”. This was the only request of my best friend’s father last fall when he came to visit us in NYC. The devout Catholic in him wanted to see our city’s historic churches, of which he had a detailed and mapped out list, and, (perhaps the Catholic in him again) wanted to try our city’s finest drinks (of which we started the tour at Flatiron Lounge). Churches and Cocktails seem to be the theme this month in our city, in the wake of the biggest upset on Wallstreet of our time, many are turning to religion and booze. Religious leaders told Reuters that attendance was up at lunchtime services especially in the financial district.
“People are just sitting there, praying or crying and definitely exhausted. There has definitely been an increase in the number of people who have come in,” [Reverend Mark Bozzuti-Jones, Trinity Church, Wall Street]
And, while New Yorker’s becoming more holy may come as a surprise, New Yorker’s hitting the bottle shouldn’t. Crain’s reports that vodka and scotch sales are up “no question”.
