Usdan Center For the Creative and Performing Arts, America's largest not-for-profit summer arts day camp, with alumni such as Mariah Carey and Natalie Portman, will hold its annual gala dinner and concert on Wednesday August 5 on its 200-acre woodland campus in Huntington, Long Island. Named a "Best Of" class or camp for 2009 by TimeOutNY/Kids, NY Metro Parent and Long Island Press newspapers, the nationally acclaimed arts center, now in its 42nd season, will give a 5 PM dinner, followed by a 7 PM concert with music, dance and theater students plus guest artists, and present a Distinguished Young Artist Award to violinist Rachel Lee, a guest artist with the Chicago Symphony, the Berlin Staatskapelle and other major orchestras around the world. Lee has performed at Usdan Center's daily Festival Concerts in its 1,000-seat McKinley Ampitheater for each of the past 10 years (along with artists such as the Tokyo String Quartet, members of the New York City Ballet, Broadway shows, the MET Orchestra and Dr. Billy Taylor).
