THE FIREPLACE PROJECT, a contemporary art gallery/project in East Hampton, is pleased to present the next exhibition, Self Portraits, by The Bruce High Quality Foundation.
Exhibition dates: July 30, through August 16, 2010.
Opening reception: Saturday, July 31, 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
The Bruce High Quality Foundation, the official arbiter of the estate of the late social sculptor Bruce High Quality, is pleased to present Self Portraits, the single largest exhibition of the artist’s signature series to date.
Best known for a seemingly boundless inventiveness upending all previous distinctions between aesthetic and social life, Bruce High Quality simultaneously maintained a quieter, more inward looking practice.
Over the course of hundreds of self-portraits, Quality interrogated the foundations of his own identity. Insinuating his image-cum-icon into the history of popular culture, art history, and private imagery, the artist used the problematic of his own existence to metonymically reveal the tenuous footholds of truth, history, and humanity.
Now, with the inclusion of recent works by The Bruce High Quality Foundation inspired by Quality’s perennial self-investigation, Self Portraits promises to be the definitive exhibition for those seeking to experience this singularly important body of the artist’s work.
The Bruce High Quality Foundation, the official arbiter of the estate of Bruce High Quality, is dedicated to the preservation of the legacy of the late social sculptor, Bruce High Quality. In the spirit of the life and work of Bruce High Quality, we aspire to invest the experience of public space with wonder, to resurrect art history from the bowels of despair, and to impregnate the institutions of art with the joy of man’s desiring. Professional Challenges. Amateur Solutions.
THE FIREPLACE PROJECT is located in the former Talmage garage at 851 Springs Fireplace Road, in the Springs historic district, across from the Pollock-Krasner House.
