The Second Annual Gay Pride Weekend program, co-sponsored by the East End Gay Organization Foundation, will feature as scholar-in-residence, Idit Klein. Idit is Executive Director of Keshet, a not-for-profit organization that offers support, training, and resources nationwide to create a fully inclusive Jewish community for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Jews. Idit will speak at Shabbat services about GLBT inclusion and change in the Jewish community today. After cocktails and hors d’oeuvres on Saturday evening, Idit will present Keshet’s documentary film Hineini: Coming Out in a Jewish High School (“I Am Here”), the story of one student’s courageous fight to establish a high school Gay-Straight Alliance. This film has inspired youth and adults across the country to create change in their own communities. On Sunday morning after bagels and coffee, Idit will share lessons learned from the campaign for equal marriage in Massachusetts, including her work to mobilize the Jewish community, and lead a panel discussion with local and state activists involved in the fight for marriage equality in New York State. Runs June 18 through June 20.
