First Known Bikinis

First Known Bikinis
Two appearances of bikinis have been found dating back to the Diocletian Period (286-305 AD). A mural depicting ten dancing women sporting bikinis has been found in an ancient villa in Sicily and two statues of the Goddess of Love, Venus, wearing a bikini have been discovered in two different villas on the ancient island of Pompeii. Despite these three appearances of bikinis, there is no evidence that women of antiquity ever wore bikinis, in fact they are believed to have bathed and swam completely naked. Antiquity
