Clam Bars And Lobster Rolls: The Quintessential Hamptons Summertime Meals

by ZARAH BURSTEIN · June 24, 2010

Nothing makes you think of summer quite like a fresh lobster roll or raw oysters with a colorful cocktail. Here are a couple of ideas to get you started in fulfilling your seafood craving.

Grab your nautical attire and head out to B. Smith’s to grub on some fresh seafood and oysters from their raw bar. Some would say that the restaurant is just another “tourist scam,” but most say that you can’t go wrong with a spot like this. Great atmosphere and even better food (spiced with a southern flair). The restaurant is right on the water so you are surrounded by boats while you eat – absolutely perfect for a sunny day.

If you are interested in a more casual old fashioned family-style vibe head to The Clam Bar or The Lobster Roll. These two restaurants can be found in the middle of nowhere along the Montauk Highway. The Clam Bar is always highly recommended – a full parking lot and packed tables. However, be warned that most of the food is fried so if you’re on a diet stick to the fresh seafood. The Lobster Roll is a roadside restaurant very similar to The Clam Bar and known for their mayonnaise-topped lobster rolls on a hot dog bun with coleslaw (hence the name of the restaurant).

Either option you choose - lobster rolls on paper plates or a classy meal surrounding million dollar yachts – you’ll sure be starting the summer off right with a quintessential summertime meal.
