With all the hype surrounding Montauk, oceanside Surf Lodge is certainly one of the big pulls encouraging mass exoduses out to the easternmost tip. Chilling to the Reggae sounds of Ky-Mani Marley (son of Bob Marley), the crowd started summer off with a laid-back vibe.

As the night continued, the crowds piled in, cozying up to the bonfire, reuniting with fair-weather friends on the waterfront deck, or finding a crumb of piece and quiet in the one of the white banquettes indoors.

We must warn that the late-night crowd was inching a little too close to the fist-pumps you might associate more with the western fronts, but during the early evening festivities, the crowd was civil and enjoyable. Hey, people even brought there children, if that's any indication of the level of the (non)rowdiness.
