You Should Know: Katharine Zaleski

by Christie Grimm · August 29, 2016

Working up a storm creating and finding amazing opportunities for women in the tech sphere, Katharine Zaleski is more than just a girl's girl - she's a girl's godsend.

    Name: Katharine Zaleski
    Occupation: Co-Founder and President, PowerToFly
    Place of Birth: Manhattan
    Instagram / Twitter: @katharinezaleski@kzaleski

What do you actually do? I'm the cofounder of PowerToFly, the fastest growing platform for companies to hire and market to women in tech.

My motto is: "Well behaved women seldom make history."

What do you actually do? I raise VC money, market PowerToFly to both candidates and clients and work with our global tech team to build products that make it super easy for major companies to hire more women. Diversity is not that hard of a concept to get on board with when you read countless studies that show how homogenous teams underperform diverse ones.

I also spend a lot of time on the subway running around the city. On the weekends, I'm in Amagansett with my two and a half year old and husband. We do a ton of kitesurfing in the summer and fall. The wind this year has been amazing - thanks, in part to the ridiculous heat.

    5 Favorite Hamptons Places:
    Napeague for kiting
Gardiner's Bay for sailing with my dad on his big boat and playing with my daughter
The Amagansett Library for story time
    The Crow's Nest for partying
    All my childhood friends' houses

The craziest thing I've done out East is... Um where do I begin? The aughts involved a lot of crazy parties. Now I prefer to save my energy for the water... We've had some crazy times in Gardiner's Bay. My husband and I lost our kite gear in a storm last September. Someone called the Coast Guard to rescue my husband who had to swim a mile back to shore (thank you anonymous tipster). My kite was found three miles off shore tied to a buoy the next day. We had to pick it up at the Coast Guard station in Montauk. Very grateful that they keep a "lost and found."

Best kept Hamptons secret? My mother will kill me for sharing... I love Gardiner's Bay. Fresh pond was one of my favorite places as a kid. Stuart's Fish Shop is also great - but I think most people know about that place now.

If you had one day left out East, what would you do? Kite, kite, kite on the ocean and in Napeauge. I'd also go to Scoop Dujour and order everything (after kiting).

Who should we know? The female founders I'm featuring on my Elle.com/Facebook Live Female Founders show. I know a lot of them from hanging out East where we let off steam after a hard week of building companies.
