Crossword Puzzle Proposal

Crossword Puzzle Proposal
One weekend last April, when Marlowe Epstein started doing the crossword puzzle in the Washington Post Style Section, she didn't notice anything unusual. She does the paper's crossword puzzle every weekend, so when she answered 39 Across: "'Casablanca' screenwriter Julius or Philip" with her own last name, she didn't suspect that her boyfriend, Corey Newman, might be spelling out a proposal. As she filled in the answers to more clues (37 Across:"'Shakespeare in Love' role," answer, Marlowe) she began to see that the puzzle was personal, but it wasn't until she answered 51 Across: "Words with a certain ring to them," (answer: will you marry me,) and Corey got down on one knee, that she realized he was asking her to marry him. Corey had been working with the Washington Posts' crossword creator to come up with the perfect proposal, and he certainly wowed his bride-to-be. After she said yes, Marlowe told the Post:
“I was so impressed that he managed to pull that off!”
