Sunday night, designer Tara Subkoff (shown above with Chloe Sevigny) and Radar hosted a party at ultra hip Beatrice Inn. Chloe Sevigny showed up in this completely “un-Chloe” number, a ruffled red dress by Bebe, splattered with black little hearts. Awwww I thought, “isn’t that cute. It’s like Chloe’s trying to be a girly girl for once.”….”This is the exact sort of dress that Julia Allison would DROOL over.” Julia herself was at that party, the one where Gawker so easily found material on to satisfy their daily fixation NEED to make fun of all things JA, as she was left in tears by Men’s Vogue writer Hud Morgan. However, that’s not the point of this post. The point is, I (gasp!) like Julia, and recognize that she is a smart and savvy self-marketer. She saw Chloe’s dress, and KNEW it was for her, even despite the fact that her stylist would cringe at the thought of her in a ruffled Bebe. If it was good enough for Chloe, it would be good enough for her. At 2:54 am that night, she posted this on her blog:
I just bought this Tara Subkoff for Bebe dress … in person the ruffles are a bit - god, I never thought I’d say this but - costume-y?? Still! It’s bright and fun and has little hearts on it. Not much more you could ask for in a Valentine’s Day dress!
Now, I’m not here to say Julia didn’t buy this dress after seeing Chloe in it that very night. Maybe she had it before hand, maybe she loved it at Beatrice and went online that very night to buy it. I really don’t give a shit. The fact is, Julia is good. She knows what works on her, and she’s not afraid to copy something that she likes. Good for her. That dress belongs on her 100% more than it does on Chloe anyway. Thanks dbth!!
