Interview: A Look Into Tupac Martir, And His Latest London Project 'Nierka'

Jan 17, 2012 4:35 PM

If you’re thinking of the rapper Tupac Shakur, then think again. Tupac Martir is the unsung hero of the design world and has provided production design, visuals and lighting direction for a host of celebrity royalty including Elton John, Beyoncé, Sting and Jon Bon Jovi at Buchanan’s Forever, Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney, Vivienne Westwood, and the Coachella music festival, just to name a few. But now the man behind the scenes is embarking on his own project, a multi-sensory spectacular of sorts, called Nierka.

With fans like Helena Bonham Carter and Julian Macdonald, Martir's Nierka should be heralded for creating such a stunning production of light, music, dance and insight. His portrayal of life is passionate and takes us to extremes, alternating between feelings of autonomy, frenzy, fear and calm. It's impossible to escape unmoved.
