Description
When we take an in-depth tour of MOCA's groundbreaking exhibition "Arshile Gorky: A Retrospective" with artist/curator John O'Brien This exhibition celebrates the extraordinary life and work of Arshile Gorky, a seminal figure in modern American art. Originating at the Philadelphia Museum of Art (and greeted with rave reviews by art critics), the show includes more than 120 works of art, surveys Gorky's entire artistic career from the early 1920's until his death by suicide in 1948. "Gorky courageously reshaped European modernism into the foundations of abstract expressionism. He inspired a new generation of artists demonstrating that the act of painting alone was enough to be both poetically charged and powerfully tragic. His legacy can be seen in the work of many major abstract expressionists represented in MOCA's permanent collection, including Willem de Kooning and Mark Rothko." Enrollment is extremely limited! If you wish to attend, please make a reservation by email to info@insidethestory.com and send a check for $40.00 to Inside the Story, 508 S. Santa Anita Ave., Pasadena CA 91107. (Because of the popularity of John's tours and the small group size, we cannot hold a reservation for more than 48 hours. Please mail your checks in promptly.)
