Today, Sushi Roku Hollywood becomes part of artist JR’s “The Wrinkles of the City” project, a compilation of murals found on the streets of Los Angeles. The collection features images of Angelenos found on buildings throughout the city, providing a visual tour of work from Silverlake to Venice Beach, with Sushi Roku in between. JR’s newest mural debuts today on the western-facing exterior wall of the restaurant, which recently underwent a remodel of both its interior design and menu.
“JR’s pieces offer a powerful and provocative look at Los Angeles, and we are honored to offer up our wall as part of his narrative on the city,” says IDG Partner Lee Maen. “I’ve followed his work from the Art in the Streets exhibit at MOCA to his work on Melrose and Venice Blvd. It’s great that he’s taken over one of our walls at Sushi Roku.”
Artwork in numerous mediums plays a role in each of Innovative Dining Group’s (IDG) restaurants, adding a distinctive touch to each space and articulating IDG’s forward-thinking approach to design and décor. Highlights include a unique woodblock sculpture and custom red felt wall at BOA Steakhouse, and Sushi Roku Hollywood’s three-dimensional wood relief of a bonsai tree by master guitar maker Stephen McSwain. At 6 feet high and 34 feet long—running the length of one wall in the room—it is a captivating focal point for diners.
