"It's all truth. Sometimes the truth is horrifying, sometimes it's hilarious. But it's never cliché. It's never preachy. It's just the truth."
Between the ages of 14 and 17, Patrick Burns lived with four foster families in Oakland, CA. His self-written, self-performed musical details this experience with both original and well-known songs, a plethora of jaw-dropping and side-splitting anecdotes, and a bizarre cast of horrific, hilarious, and ultimately heartbreaking characters. This show is an unforgettable night of original, boundary-pushing theater!
The Ahimsa Collective is excited to have been awarded a grant from the Puffin Foundation in order to revamp this show and get this moving and inspirational piece seen by even more people! We are thrilled to have Patrick back in from New York City to perform this piece, and to announce a pre-show benefit that will have poetry, art, and music inspired or created by foster children. There will be an art auction, performances, and wine and appetizers. The show will be held immediately afterward, and is being recorded for possible radio play and to be used as a tool for children "aging out" of the foster care system. A major portion of the proceeds from the benefit will be donated to Fostering Imagination, a program that mentors at-risk, displaced foster youth in Los Angeles through free, structured one-on-one creative arts and social development. The show is being held at The Hayworth Theatre, 2511 Wilshire Blvd, LA, CA 90057.
The benefit begins at 7 in the ballroom, and the show starts at 8. Come experience this moving piece and make a difference in a child's life!
