| Description |
The exhibition features works by emerging LA based artists Kelly Akashi, Morgan Cuppet-Michelsen and Michelle Jane Lee. Each artist showcases a distinct conceptual approach, which is reflected in the diversity of aesthetics. Lee’s drawings of colored squares, each representing a letter of the alphabet, make up patterns that tell personal stories through an idiosyncratic coding system. Akashi’s process is a transformation from the photograph into a digital illustration fused with sculptural elements. These prints bring to view the vastly different stylistic elements of architecture throughout history. Cuppet-Michelsen’s photographs depict the influence of images on experience, the translation of experience into memory, and the materiality of photographs themselves. This body of work is on view at Gallery 3209 from May 21-July 1 2011.
