Last night, a young, shiny crowd came out for the debut of photographer, filmmaker and frequent James Franco collaborator, Adarsha Benjamin's first solo exhibition, Dreamscapes. Held on the roof of Siren Studios in Hollywood, the event was part of their Rooftop Sessions and gave us yet another reason to be very excited for summer. More»

It's getting to be that time of year again where we get dressed up to drink and shmooze around our favorite enormous David Hockney-painted pool at least once a week for the next four months. Of course I'm talking about party season at the Roosevelt's Tropicana Bar which covergirls Juno Temple and Britt Robertson helped kick off last night at the annual NYLON May Young Hollywood Issue celebration. Following evening live music events featuring the likes of Santigold and James Murphy, night 16 of the 17-day Transmission LA: AV Club interdisciplinary art festival at MOCA curated by Mike D had to go big. Perhaps that's why Diplo, everyone's favorite DJ/producer/BlackBerry spokesperson, was tapped to close out one of the undisputed coolest L.A. cultural happenings to go down in recent history with one of his signature panty-dropping DJ sets on Cinco de Mayo Saturday night. It was also just a day after the tragic news of the death of the event maestro's fellow Beastie Boy, MCA AKA Adam Yauch, so see how Diplo paid tribute to the rapper who taught us how to get ill. For the main source of all life on Earth, we sure do tend to have a pretty one-sided relationship with water. We drink it, freeze it, bottle it, and float on it, but rarely do we solicit its advice or try to hear what it might have to tell us. This is a shame, for as Resource Water's Fountain Of Electrolytenment at the Grove surely proved, it's that our water has as much to say to us as we do to it. More»

There's a funny kind of disconnect that can come with starting out as a fashion blogger: you're writing about the most glamorous people and items in the world, but until you hit it big, you're still working out of the metaphorical (or real) basement. How you go about bridging that gap to mainstream success was the subject of Monday's star studded FABB West Fashion & Beauty Blog Conference at Santa Monica's beautiful Annenberg Beach House, hosted by Lucky. Every country in the world has their own pop stars, but only a rare and special few can take it to the next level and conquer an American market already saturated in homegrown talent. With an electrifying debut performance at DJ Casey Alva's birthday party at West Hollywood's Hype at The Factory/Ultra Suede, it seems that Israeli pop sensation Hayla is poised to become dance music's next crossover star. How do cool parents celebrate Earth Day with their kids? With live performances by very famous musicians, edible art projects, fossil digs, manicures and DJ lessons on the beach in L.A., as was the case at the book launch of Last Night I Swam With A Mermaid yesterday at the Annenberg Community Beach House where hip moms and dads like Julie Bowen, Jason Bateman, Johnny Knoxville and others stepped out for the family friendly occasion. Last night, the Geffen Contemporary at MOCA kicked off Transmission L.A., a 17-day audio/visual arts festival curated by Beastie Boy and cultural icon Michael "Mike D" Diamond. While the event was packed beyond capacity almost immediately, those lucky (or early) enough to get in were treated to a full-spectrum sensory overload of immersive audio/visual art installations, food, live music, and style. We hit up Instagram to collect the best snapshots from this crazy party and give you a little taste of what the next 16 days will have in store. More»

A good idea, a lot of hard work, and the right attitude can go an incredibly long way, which is how online vintage retailer Nasty Gal went from a one-person eBay venture to an insanely fast-growing international business with hundreds of thousands of customers in just six years. Nasty Gal founder Sophia Amoruso celebrated the site's recent redesign, launch of the Nasty Gal blog, and general success with a Sky Ferreira-hosted, Breakbot DJ'ed blowout at the Roosevelt's Tropicana Bar last night. Going out on the town with your girlfriends is always a good time, but sometimes the best part of the evening begins way before, during the "getting ready" process. That's why L.A. fashion and lifestyle blog Minx Society teamed up with Juan Juan Salon for their Beauty Night Out, an exclusive pre-party pampering event for fellow minxes to get dolled up before their Saturday night outings.
