For an unofficial opening, last night's preview of Bootsy Bellows, the new nightlife venture from Darren Dzienciol, Brian Toll, John Terzian and David Arquette, certainly went off with quite a bang, and we're not talking about the paparazzi kerfuffle the sent Paris Hilton tumbling to the ground outside (and I hope for society's sake the only reaction to that breaking news is a resounding yawn). The day after providing the soundtrack to Kate Bosworth and boyfriend Michael Polish's very public, heated fight and reconciliation on the dance floor at the Swarovski CFDA Awards after party at Boom Boom Room in NYC, DJ Mia Moretti was bringing the house down here in L.A. With less than 24 hours notice to pull off a debut soft opening for the L.A. rendition of NYC's beloved barbershop speakeasy bar, the Blind Barber boys drew quite an impressive crowd seldom seen west of La Brea to Culver City last night. After receiving news their liquor license was active on Wednesday night, they rallied the troops and got emergency backup from mainest men Will Crimes and Nick Foster to supply tunes for the first night of operation at Blind Barber L.A. A college education is a precious gift. Not only does it mean that you, your parents and/or the state have made a massive commitment of money and resources to mold you into an adult and future leader, but it's also pretty much the only guaranteed time that you and 2,000 other people can get drunk, strip down to your underwear, and run around outside, just for kicks. Which is exactly what UCLA did last night on their Winter Quarter Undie Run.

All good things must come to an end, and whether you really think the 2012 Grammys were a good thing (how you feel about Adele will probably determine that), they, too, are now over. But as might befit a giant party the music industry throws for itself, they did not go quietly, and we were on hand to witness the L.A. Exploring places beyond one's designated comfort zone can be particularly daunting for Angelenos. For some people, it's a chronic case of AWOL (Always West of Lincoln); for others, leaving and entering the valley presents an emotional challenge.
