It's not our place to say whether the anger and outrage of the neighbors of Sunday's Hudson Block Party is inappropriate. We're just saying if the residents occupying the same vicinity as the West Hollywood Halloween Carnaval, Elton John's Oscar viewing party, or just the routine shitshow that takes place outside the Hudson and the rest of Santa Monica Blvd on the weekends are this "disgusted" over the Hudson Block Party, it must have been one helluva messy rager. And actually, we know it was from everyone who was there and have photos of the good times to prove it. More»
Happy Halloween, everyone! It may be Monday, but we are now into Day 4 of this extended magical holiday "weekend," so everyone who made it to work this morning and plans to continue the bender tonight, I salute you. WeHo obviously has an affinity for this holy celebration of our right to dress as ridiculously/scantily clad as we want in public. Just ask West Hollywood Mayor John J. Duran:
"What started out as a bunch of gay men in drag stumbling in heels on Santa Monica Boulevard in Boystown has become the largest Halloween Carnaval in the world!"
Behold, tonight's annual West Hollywood Halloween Costume Carnaval. More»
[Real Housewives of Beverly Hills Lisa Vanderpump and Adrienne Maloof via] Has anybody made sure Rachel Zoe isn't out on a ledge somewhere?? In today's wee morning hours, West Hollywood's City Council approved an ordinance barring the sale of fur—tentatively, that is. Such a ban would make the same city that recently declared an official Go-Go Dancer Appreciation Day the first city in the country to impose a fur ban. More»
Traditionally, men want to downplay the importance of strippers in their lives, as this helps us convince the women whom we do not ply with dollar bills that our relationships with them are more meaningful. But West Hollywood Mayor John Duran has never been big on tradition and next month his city will be honoring those warriors of the Champagne Room with an official Go-Go Dancer Appreciation Day, and he seemingly couldn't be happier about it. If you happened to be in the WeHo area at any point this weekend, you probably saw some truly astonishing getups and visions, from rainbow hula-hoop fairies to herds of grown men taking a casual stroll down the sidewalk wearing nothing but matching junderpants. It was, of course, all part of LA PRIDE, as Angelenos came out in droves to celebrate equality and party in the streets for the LGBT community. The image above captures what I was sitting behind in traffic yesterday afternoon on Melrose: a pinker than pink car with three people sitting on top out of the sunroof waving to passersby as if on a float in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Well, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa is dancing with drag queens again, so you know what that means! No, his wife's not out of town—it means this weekend marks the 2011 edition of LA PRIDE, the West Hollywood-based Gay Pride festival/parade that makes a normal WeHo party look like a Sunday School field trip to the Creation Museum. And as a straight man, I can tell you for certain that whether or not you identify as LGBT, it's going to be worth your time. In the same way that you don't have to be Mexican on Cinco de Mayo or Irish on St. Patty's, LA PRIDE is a gigantic party open to any and all who want to celebrate equality and/or get drunk in public. Today, Chief U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker ruled Prop 8, which bans same-sex marriage in California, unconstitutional. The ban has been overturned, so now it's time for you, gay or straight, to rejoice in the cleanest part of town -- yes, West Hollywood. More»
