Slide #1

Art lovers, collectors, and fans of "Twin Peaks" and "Blue Velvet" stepped out to Kayne Griffin Corcoran gallery on La Brea Saturday night to be among the first to check out David Lynch's pieces included in his Naming exhibition as well as select new works. The room erupted with excitement upon the artist's arrival to the event with guests swarming a very gracious and humble Lynch who happily signed books and posed for photos with all who asked. Curated by Brett Littman, Naming features paintings and drawings that deal with the complex relationship between objects and meanings and their representations, or names. The works mostly consist of shades of black and white with an occasional dash of red and spots of other colors to depict bizarre and unsettling, images involving human figures, animals, automobiles, planes, and buildings existing in a dreamlike space. Playing on the idea behind the works, many feature child-like scribbled words to spell out cryptic messages that only intensify the haunting quality of the works. The show is definitely worth a visit if you're down to get weird with David Lynch so make a note to stop by Kayne Griffin Corocoran while it's on view until January 4th, 2014. In the meantime, keep clicking through the slideshow for a peek inside the opening reception and visit our photo gallery for complete coverage. David Lynch Mandy Stoller, Angelo Chavez
