Get your Shakespeare on in Los Feliz

Okay, so it's no Shakespeare in the Park, but the Griffith Park Free Shakespeare Festival is still mighty fine theater and isn't so well-known that you'll have to be sleeping outside all night to get tickets. Produced by the Independent Shakespeare Co, the Festival will have performances of A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Winter's Tale, and A Comedy of Errors running Thursday-Sunday nights from June 28th through September 2nd.

Before a night at the theatre, make sure to explore Los Feliz, known to New York transplants as "The Park Slope of the West Coast except without ridiculous rent and bags of trash on the sidewalks... oh, and with trees, too." 1739 Public House on Vermont Ave. has a great beer selection and a tremendous happy-hour offer of free slices of pizza with any alcoholic beverage purchase before 7. If you're trying to keep the waistline slim, toss a frisbee around in the park before having a delicious avocado sandwich from The Trails Cafe, right inside the park.
